Sebastian Mikosz Group Managing Director & CEO #KaziKwaKantrimen Guy is a tribalist. If an Ogiek CEO appointed a team of 4 specialist Ogieks reporting directly to him there would be a motion in parliament. Exactly, while trimming the powers of Kenyans who have worked in that company for sooo long through sweat and blood. Shindwe!!!! The same guys who have looted right? Another 300m is believed to have disappeared and some lady from RM has been suspended...Anyway. When was this revelation? The line up put in place by Ngunze lacked the necessary managerial experience. I said here before that the problem with KQ is 'Management'. Sebastian found out the same and this is the reason why he made the appointments - proven and tested individuals who will take instructions from the CEO as @VVS puts it. I do not have any problem with the individuals appointed. Let them get down to work. Some of them will end up being directors replacing the current ones. No one has a problem with white folks. As a shareholder, I wish Mikosz and his dream team the very very best. However the simple question arises again as to whether blacks were created by an inferior god They are still employees. Just there for a salary. Don't be under any illusion that they have a special calling to save KQ. If things don't work out, they will just fly out like that Mumias CEO. They will put the systems, controls, strategy and all what is required for KQ to perform. I can vouch this. These guys are serious in what they do. You will be shocked at how transformed KQ will be. Many will wonder what Ngunze and his team were doing. I have said here before that if there were strong controls in KQ then a supervisor in treasury could not have made away with millions. It is just VERY disgusting. Where in earth can you justify a situation where a fuel supplier dictates the price of fuel and to make the matters worst that fuel gets lost somewhere in the tanks. The revelations in the forensic audit are shocking to say the least. It demonstrates that the management that was there was not capable at all. Watch this space. Things are going to change in KQ. Believe it or not. I know the missed opportunities at KQ. You think Mzungus don't steal? Ask yourself how they still own the prime lands in Kenya, from the coast to the highlands and the rift. Resist the tempation to say that they bought or that they are not the same wazungus. These mugabe-like type of arguments is what gets in the way of our evolutionary journey. Who has said Mzungus do not steal? I am sure Mikozs avoided lots of Polish thieves while trying to get the talent he needed. Resist the temptation to sweep Kenyan vices under the table and we might have a chance of conquering them one day. Infact that team have caused a lot of jitters to people in KQ. MJ just addressed it in the press conference that they are here to only assist and not to take jobs. KQ is a national asset. If a foreign CEO is appointed his first priority should be to transfer skills to locals not to hire his countrymen. Ideally yes, but contracts are not always based on theoretical ideals. It is most likely he came on board because he was promised he will be allowed to take whatever actions in his opinion would help with the turn-around. Immigration and employment law 101:- You hire a professional Expat if there is a local skills gap. A condition of giving work permit to the Expat is that the skills be transferred to locals. Decisions taken were below par. This guy already diagnosed and he is about to cure. One cannot expect the same individuals who oversaw mismanagement to pull it out. Ngunze helped KQ alot and deserves a better send off I do not agree. He made stupid decisions that led to loss of customers, pilots, engineers. It will take Sebastian a while to stabilize the Airline and bring it back to it's former state. Actions taken by Ngunze regarding maintenance of the planes was only reversed after pilots went on strike. This is when MJ was appointed and he helped sort out. Ngunze was hell bent on bringing down this Airline.

National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) will take longer before it can fly directly to the US despite having received the green light to do so. According to the Chief Executive Sebastian Mikosz, there are still a lot of audits and contractual arrangements to be made before KQ can launch the much-awaited flights. “There are still audits to be carried out. The US has strict requirements and there is a lot for KQ to do on paper. It is a precious opportunity but we have to get it right first,” he said. Speaking during an annual general meeting at the airline’s headquarters in Nairobi, the CEO told investors that the airline will have to ensure that it has the passengers, not just to take to US but also from US back to Kenya. “The decision to launch a flight is subject to proper commercial agreements. Opening a connection to fly an empty aircraft is the last thing we want. It is easier on the Kenyan side because we are here and, therefore, easier to collect passengers from East Africa to the US,” he said.
