OK guys, before the Safari 7s begin, Kenya's national team Shujaa are on their way to the London 7s, then on to the Edinburgh 7s, before returning to defend the Safari Sevens trophy.
Shujaa have a tough pool in London against the NZ All Blacks, Wales and Portugal.
In Scotland they will not have it easy either as they are pooled with: Samoa (Oh boy), France and Argentina.
The London and Edinburgh 7s are the last rounds of the IRB Seven World Series and Shujaa should aim to win or at least participate int he finals of either of the tournaments so as to improve their overall rankings. The Samoans are leading the rankings with 124 points while Kenya is at 7th (5th from bottom) with 52 points. Canada is at the bottom with 11 points.
Quote:Ayimba names Kenya Sevens squad to London and Scotland
Benjamin Ayimba has named a twelve man Kenya National Sevens team to compete in the London and Scotland legs of the IRB Sevens World Series. Kenya lie seventh overall on 52 points and will be out to end their 2009/2010 campaign on a high.
Speaking to the KRU after naming his side at the RFUEA Grounds, Ayimba said, “We head into these two legs 18 points behind our set target. We have landed some tough pools but we will be out to compete for maximum points in both legs.”
The London Sevens take place from Saturday 22nd May 2010 at Twickenham with the Scotland leg of the circuit kicking off a week later in Edinburgh.
Commenting on the forthcoming Safaricom Sevens, Ayimba said, “ The Safaricom Sevens is just a few days after the last round of the IRB Sevens World Series. We have carried our sprint coach Geoffrey Kimani to ensure that the boys remain in tip top shape ahead of our home tournament.”
Stalwarts Alan Onyango, Ben Nyambu and Sidney Ashioya miss this tour due to job related commitments but Ayimba feels that he has sufficient firepower for the trip to the United Kingdom. Leon Adongo returns to the team for the first time since the Dubai Sevens.
