In the debate, when asked about his housing policy, baba attacked "greedy" landlords and said he will bring down rents. Rents will be strictly controlled by government.

Googles galore! He said he would apply the relevant legislation. He actually dealt more on the 'Slum lords'

For 25 years what did he do in kibera, today along railway line i see decent low cost housing built during UK tenure that is less than 4 years, he speaks but i dont think it is translated to reality
Life is an endless adventure

How is he a coward when he stated 20 days ago, on 5/7/17, that he will not participate in the debate. Also he is the president, why share the stage with aspirants? Why would he want to debate on why he wants to be president when he is already president? Hiyo ni kazi ya akina baba. For ohuru the appropriate forum should be one looking at his achievements and telling us why he wants continue serving as president, and a town hall style meeting is best for that.

It's ok to twist and turn and start saying Raila was bad because he said this.

AT LEAST HE SHOWED UP

Uhuru has a habit of disappearing when needed by his people

Westgate, Garissa, Lamu, NYS, Doctor's Strike the currently going on Nurses strike

He seems to be very scared of Raira in public or is scared of having to prove to his supporters that there's anything he's done for the past 5 years?

UK may regret this no show moment. RAO took those 90 minutes airtime and immediately hooked the country.

He is naturally a rambler more comfortable in open spaces with crowds drowning his words so I have to say I was very impressed with how he articulated issues.

He was able to explain the 2008 maize scandal and cleanly clear his name.

He explained his position on rent and clearly stated that his solutions would for starters target slum lords who don't even own the land and would be within the law. At the end he further stated that they would focus on large scale low housing projects to provide dignified accomodation to the youth and single mothers ala as done in Singapore etc.

He was conciliatory and clearly decoupled the UK govt from the larger Kikuyu tribe and only referred to the benefits of power as being enjoyed by his friends and not the entire tribe.

To me those 90 minutes easily earned him a large chunk of most undecided voters and probably gave him strong momentum is the swing zones like Maasaini, Kisii and NE.

Showing up and talking too much and ending up saying nothing about how you will solve the issues facing Kenya, but only narrating stories and recounting events on the podium, is a waste of time. At least Ekuru Aukot had concrete plans when he appeared on stage and out did baba. If voting was based purely on presidential debates Aukot would beat baba 9-1.

Remember he is a media owner, they refuse his media house does it and for viewership purpose they will willingly do it

NASA will probably have a parallel townhall meeting hatakama jubilee will have paid all the media houses. All said and done that debate snub was a serious miscalculation on Jubilee's part with just weeks to go it it should be about closing arguments not being put on the defensive and attacking characters who have zero impact like ageyo and linus

I am disappointed UK didn't turn up. But that's now cannot be undone. But I believe this is one election which is issue based. In mashinani people are now asking questions. What did he do as an MCA? MP? or Governor. In Kiambu for instance, although there was a lot of propaganda people are disappointed with poor service delivery Vs the county government levies. As for yesterday's presidential debate RAO did extremely well. But the issues he need to conclusively deal with and try to navigate is the "rent issue" and land issue. It might be his waterloo. Finally something being whispered in low tones is his religious leaning? where does he stand? That another small movement iko chini ya maji but is gaining traction with the Christians.

Coward is a coward....

“There are five character flaws that are dangerous for a general. If he is reckless, his men can be killed. If he is cowardly, his army can be captured. If he is short-tempered, he will react in anger. If he is self-important, he can be deceived. If he is attached to his men, he will hesitate at a crucial moment. These five flaws are certainly unfortunate for a general because they cause great destruction in war. These five flaws cause generals to fail and armies to die. Consider them well.”

Would Uhuru have gotten fair questioning if he had attended knowing far too well that the two fellows Linus and Joe are ODM members. Just asking for a friend.

@People on the ground are not getting his rationale on reducing rent to manageable levels. The question being " does Baba has his own houses so as to promise to reduce rent.

I might have called him names before, but RAO yesterday evening convinced me that he is of good intentions. Particularly how he will deal with the issue of corruption and how he intends to lift the dignity of Kenyans by construction of decent low cost housing etc....Raila did very well in that debate and came out as a very intelligent man despite my past perception of him

He was very shallow and unconvincing and lacking facts. He even said unga is currently 150 bob when 90 bob unga is all over. He couldn't defend himself against corruption in the maize scandal during his tenure as PM. Regarding housing he had no plan but rather shifted the blame to land lords where he said rent will be controlled via the Rent restrictions act. How will landlord invest when they cant raise rent above 2500 as per the act? On alshabbad he said it is is him and kibaki who sent troops to somalia and now wants them to be withdrawn and stationed at the kenyan border. Wont all the liberated territories fall back to alshabab. Will Kenya be safer with the terrorists occupying territory upto the kenyan border?

Sawa boss. I still maintain that if go.ke can implement this kind of project then as a voter i will be very happy and i am sure most Kenyans will be happy to pay rent/or mortgage such houses at friendly prices. If you want to see the squalor Kenyans are living in just take a train ride from Nairobi to Syokimau and see the conditions in Mukuru kwa njenga. As for corruption, a colleague at work is of the school of thought that under the current katiba, a sitting president cannot "Magufuli" anyone because of what she(my colleague) refereed to as the bill of rights...etc.Any lawyer or katiba expert who can clarify this for us? Why can't people and banks(e.g., family bank, KCB) that have clearly been shown to have stolen money or banks that have used as conduits of stealing(money from Kenya and South Sudan) be just be "Magufulid" mara hiyo hiyo? Why is it that the headmistress in Mombasa was immediately charged with murder in Mombasa after that freak accident involving a student and not broad light thieves of pesa ya umma? Why is it that a bus driver in corner mbaya passie(Githurai) was sent to the gallows for life swiftly for not resisting to touch fat and succulent brown thighs being flaunted in a miniskirt lakini corruption inakuwa kizungumkuti? Again RAO appeared genuine to me in these two matters(corruption and social welfare) to the extent i have started asking myself questions? Finally, remember that RAO has said he has no problems with freedom of speech so i owe it to him for going scot free with my vulgar language and insults on social media

Precisely. And Linus at some not distant past vied for an elective post some place in Kilgoris on an ODM ticket.

Uhuru was clever not to attend. I would have done the same thing.
