Petrol stations particularly Shell and Total are expanding like crazy. Many new (ex jap) cars are appearing on our roads everyday. You go to Carrefour or Naivas and queues are very long full of shoppers. You attend a school meeting and nowadays there's no parking coz of too many cars, even the playing field is full. So all is not gloom. A few retailers may be suffering but that could be due to their internal problems. FYI some years back uchumi was still struggling even when every other company was making billions.

Quote:
The industrialist and chairman of Brand Kenya spent the better part of his address dressing down journalists for what he called their warped sense of news, and hate of their country.

Mr Kirubi is among Kenya’s richest men. He is also a philanthropist and faults the media for their fixation with failure.

SUCCESS STORIES

He actually called journalists “gravediggers’”, who delight in failed enterprises as opposed to success stories.
As Mr Kirubi noted, a foreigner visiting Kenya for investment opportunities would be forgiven for taking the next flight out, thinking that he had landed in the wrong place, what with negative stories!

Quoted from the article ........

Editors and media proprietors have the ability to change the narrative from doom and gloom to celebrating national heroes and Mrs Njuguna was one.

Applause Applause Applause

It's so amusing how KQ pops up in any thread.

It's a cautionary tale of what NOT to do!
Corruption.
Over-expansion.
Debt-fueled expansion.
Hubris.
Idiocy.
Government ownership/control.
Poor management.
Paid lobbyists on Wazua.
Favored suppliers.
Negative cashflow.
And much more.

[BTW, I also bought into the hype at one point until the Rights Issue in 2012 when I saw it was nothing but a Ponzi Scheme. An expensive lesson.]
Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett
