KQ is only good for the strategic investor who needs to hold it for broad strategic reason, not for profit any time in the near future!

Govt-> needs to be in KQ to protect national interests; jobs pride etc. Govt is NOT a profit-making institution!

KLM-> needs to remain in there because if they exit, a competitor will move in and enjoy the landing rights held by KQ. KLM doesn't expect to get any direct profit/dividends from KQ!

The rest of us are joyriders! we add nothing and gain nothing from owning shares in this insolvent and illiquid junk share! Unless, of course you're there for entertainment value - adrenaline swings as the price swings up and down unpredictably! This thing is a roller coaster.

Hehe. Even childbirth is difficult.. KCB is now reborn. No gain without pain. There are many people who have made cash off this counter and even more are on the way.

BTW I was one of them. Bought at 6.95 and sold at 119! Then watched as it slid down to 70-to-50-to-40-----to-5!

I might start buying again at one bob. It's just a matter of time!

Ngai!
Obiero; what do you mean "KQ never got it wrong.. It's Naikuni that plundered"?

Kwani a company can make decisions on its own? A company is just a piece of paper! A certificate of incorporation. And as we all know, papers have never been known to make decisions!

Some one up this thread said they'd prefer KQ to KenGen because they trust Michael Joseph. When you buy into a company, you do so because of the people running it - you trust that they can make the right decisions to take full advantage of the environment in which it operates.

BEFORE getting into this business of shares, watu wajifunze kusoma balance sheet!

There is no problem with having hundreds of billions of shillings in loans; the question is whether you have enough assets to cover these loans.

The answer is found in the balance sheet under the title "Shareholders' funds" a.k.a. "net asset value"

In the case of KQ it is a negative quantity. In other words, the loans (however small) are more than the assets!

In the case of KenGen it is a positive quantity. In other words, the loans (however large) are less than the assets.
