Wasn't it obvious that the SGR was going to disrupt the cargo and human transport industry especially in the coast?

Transport firm asks State not to subsidise new railway

RIP Modern Coast, Mash Poa… This is the Amount You’ll Pay for SGR Train To Mombasa

At such rates, will it make economic sense? If the Chinese company was recommending fares of about 4k, how then would an eighth (1/8) of that break-even, leave alone making some profit?

After those six members, 'tutajua imetagia wapi'.

It makes perfect marketing sense in marketing a new product or service.
What they need if for customers using other modes to try it out and opt for it over what they are currently using. They therefore have to market it below the price of the other available alternatives, later they can increase the fares once they have people hooked in.

A 6 month subsidy is a waste of taxes. Even if you do use it at 800/=, will you use it at 4500/= when price normalises?

Now PORK and his abled DP ill board this inaugural (spl) ride from Coast to Nairobi tomorrow, I wonder what will be in their mind!

By the way have you seen some of those major stations? They are YUGE and beautiful but I am surprise the CS Transie said we will only have one train per day one way each...
Who will use all those magnificie facilities? The night lights, the air-coned waiting lounges, the YUGE platforms etal?

This means the lounges will be used only for a maximum of say 1 hour and remain deserted for the next 23 hours.

Anyone of you ever visited the Syokimau commuter train station? Its in a state of disrepair due to underutilization plus utter NEGLET! Yet it get occupied at least 3 hours a day!

The type of the train stations built by these Chinese were fully based on the China model of mass transport...those stations require several trains per day, operation every 30 mins on the minimum.

Otherwise we will see some of the rare white elephants that we thought had become extinct!

I love this SGR thing. I hate the corruption but the idea was brilliant especially for the Coast region. I can leave Nai with my family on Friday Sato morning for a weekend holiday at the beach and back on Sunday.
That is such a big boost for our hotel industry.

BBI will solve it

The bar where you can enjoy your tusker or whisky while on the 4hr journey. Traveling will be such a nice experience...by the time you finish your 5th beer, you will already be in mombasa....

Hope to book one of these sleeper coaches in the future so that I can land on my mpango for the 4hrs from nrb to mbs. By the time we alight mambasani, we just check into our hotel and doze off. That is what is called travelling in style...or is it landing in style?
