Writing a virus so as to later hawk a solution is a terrible idea. The proceeds would never cover the damage done to the brand, not to mention its probably illegal. To be fair, Microsoft does a decent job of plugging loopholes; it is organizations who couldn't be bothered to keep up implementing the rigorous update schedule cause it is a hassle and costs some money...same goes for individual users who don't have bandwidth to keep downloading hundreds of megs of updates or the IT skill...until disaster strikes. You could use Linux..then see your productivity drop by 50% ...in general..(leave Linux to programmers and IT experts and enthusiasts).....or Mac OS...and pay an arm and a leg for hardware and software. Keep your Windows machines updated people, its the simplest and most painless of the options available right now

When Microsoft software engineers discover vulnerabilities, they dispatch a patch which prompts you the user to either update immediately or after 4 hrs etc. These updates are automatic but you will have to restart your computer. Some people (with admin privileges) block the updates because they find it a waste of time - waiting for the comp to install patches and reboot. Others keep pushing it.
