As long as the kleptocrats don't get into KenyaRe, this stock is one I am happy holding for the long(er) term. A Warren Bufffett play. Value. Moat. Earnings. Underwriting profit in most years. Solid investment returns on float. Cash rich. What's not to like except GoK's ownership? [That I watch closely. Any hint of funny business and I am out!]
With GoK paying tax-free 13.5% on bonds, I wish KenRe would sell off other assets and stick the money in these bonds!!!

Drool Drool Drool Drool I am waiting for another drop and I am ready to buy more. This is my "Retirement Fund" [Yes, if I sense something is shady, I will sell, even at a loss]

We know that you thrive at making losses in the NSE.. From I&M, Olympia, KQ, KENO, KENRE.. Sorry to ask, but have you ever made a monumental return in any of your holdings.. Like 100% plus

Sad Sad Sad No, coz now I only buy solid firms that make profits. No speculative stuff.
Olympia = conmen like Michael Matu. I sold out 3 years ago.
KQ = Thieves. I I sold out in 2012.

I&M, KenRe, KK [core holdings] = They are all profitable, pay dividends and have cash. Not +100% firms but I am a Warren Buffett follower. WB says buy value and good governance. So that's what I try to do.

It's so hard to live with firms that have made profits since 2013. d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!
I need to follow your lead and pick firms that lose money every year come rain or shine. Pray Pray Pray

@VVS do what you know is best. There is a difference between speculators and investors. Investors always come thru.
One thing i dont like about this stock though is timidness fof management.

Rule #1 : Don't lose money [the business. Share price fluctuations are irrelevant in the long-term when the shares are bought at fair or cheap prices vs values]
Rule #2 : Look at rule #1

Since he is a long term investor,the best way to ask him is if at the end of last year;what was his annual returns in his portfolio as to a) dividends b) capital gains

Anytime this thing comes to 18bob better buy in loads because it will take off just like Safcom from 5 bob and you will be left with wishful thinking at the stage smile

Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

Kenya Re holds 70% of the reinsurance market. So even if the cessions ends, they still hold majority market share. I can see Mr. market recognizing this as the insurance sector is on the uptick.
