It is no secret that Governor Mutua has been angling to claim the ultimate political leader mantle in Ukambani.

His ace card has been predicated on the scenario above - a narrative that has remained on the lips of Ukambani folk. He and the Mutambus would be popping the champagne on account of ‘vindication’ – see we told you, but Kalonzo was too blind/visionless to see it.

It’s a do or die.

In the 80's if you had told anyone that dissident Raila would one day be Secretary General of Kanu, his nemesis, you would have been laughed out of town. Yet it happened.

In 1997, immediately after losing in the general election and only managing position three, Raila quickly teamed up with Kibaki, and together gave the then president Moi an ultimatum; - to nullify the results of that election (which they characterised as rigged) and call a fresh one forthwith. They gave Moi two weeks in which to do that failing which they and their supporters would actively pressure him out.

The wily fox that Moi was, decided to nip this new found alliance (Mountain + Lake = lethal) in the bud immediately. He dispatched Mr Dawa, one Mark Too to do the trick on Raila. The rest is history – came cooperation, then merger which essentially meant Railas NDP getting taken over by KANU wholesale.

Raila’s relations with Moi prior to the enticement compares veery unfavourably compared to Raila’s relations with Uhuru today.
