I pledge my loyalty to the president and the nation of Kenya. My readiness and duty to defend the flag of our republic. My devotion to the words of our national anthem. My life and strength in the task of our nation’s building. In the living spirit embodied in our national motto – Harambee! And perpetuated in the Nyayo philosophy of peace, love and unity.[1]

what was this about? what did Moi acheive by making us cram and recite it???

You're a disappointment to all the generation which recited this pledge..... i.e if you're still asking the reason
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

It's called being 'papachoted' in the nyayo philosophy.

The Philosophy of peace, love and unity was the bedrock philosophy of Kenya as an Independent nation, hence, "nyayo", which means footsteps, of Jomo Kenyatta who struggled to embed Peace, Love, and Unity as the national "psyche" over his rule. Peace love and unity is a very old African Philosophy that reigned for centuries among specific "God fearing groups" of what was known as Aetopia by ancient Greeks, Abyssynia, the South in Jesus time, was recorded by ancient Chinese as strechting all the way from Lower Sudan to Cape coast, with several dispersed "civilizations", which were fairly "wealthy", of course with intermittent wars e.tc. up till around 1500 A.D The interior bore the more primitive tribes and bushmen, up till when slaves for export had a huge market in the USA, the pourtegese came, mid 1500's to 1720's when Oan Arabs took over again, and all this was disrupted. Some stayed at the coast, some fled and intermingled with the various primitive settlements in the interior.

The philosophy is an attempt to carry a "little history" to many Kenyans who do not know who they are.
