Burkina Faso aka Upper Volta still unbeaten after thrashing Tunisia 2-0.

Everytime I see Burkinabe shining, I am reminded that Kenya trounced Burkina Faso 3-0 at AFCON 2004.

Then in 1997, Kenya beat Burkinabe 4-2 at home and 4-3 away. .

In other words, Burkina Faso used to be beaten senseless by Kenyan teams.

Since then, Kenya's football and Burkinabe football have gone in different directions. Thanks to a decade of darkness with Nyamweya, Hatimy, Maina kariuki and other horrible KFF chairmen.

Has been a very exciting tournament, low key though. I hope Cameroon wins but history strongly favours Egypt.

Popcorn and a flask of coffee check!...

BBI will solve it

That goal Egypt scored was a very typical Egyptian goal, well constructed, precise passes, intelligent runs and ending with a technically brilliant finish from a difficult angle. I have been watching Egyptian clubs and national teams for decades and this is typical.

Cameroon have very physically gifted players. They are big yet very agile and their individual strengths and muscle is what carried them. The first goal was player leaping 2 feet above his Egyptian opponent. It reminded me of Omam Biyik leaping over Argentina many years ago. The second goal was also a good piece of skill though it could have been a foul against Cameroon.

Cameroon deserve credit for winning without 5 or 6 top players who boycotted the tournament. But they have a tendency to dominate in Africa then flop badly at the world cup. Too much dependence on individual skills, an element of selfishness and lack of tactical depth will doom them at the next world cup again.

World cup is not just about talent, it is also about preparation and this is where most african countries cannot hack it. I think Kenya is the only country in Africa, that can do kidogo better management of her sportsmen, despite last olympics being poorly coordinated.Tactical Awareness is in my opinion sometimes overexaggerated. What is important, is to have footballers, who are a bit intelligent and to have a good medical team and players have to feel, that their needs are well taken care of. Cameroun, Nigeria and Ghana have problems with the above highlighted problems

Where tactical awareness helps is when you can read what the opposition is doing and find ways to stop it. Or if you can study the other team's weakness and exploit it.

Tactical depth is important because if you are employing one set of tactics and it is not working, the coach should be able to seamlessly switch to a different system say by making substitutions or switching positions.

Germany is successful at almost every world cup precisely because of their ability to exploit the weakness of other teams. Once they find a weakness, they will bury you. Just ask Brazil how they conceded 7 goals.

These German players like Mueller and Miroslav Kloser are not individually brilliant. But its how they function as a team that makes them invincible.
