My heart goes to our soldiers, to their families, to our country... I'm hoping a solution is found soon and end the suffering by those affected, directly and indirectly...

That is correct. Once people get a taste of life under Sharia law, they reject it. Somalis especially hated Al Shabaab's version of Sharia law which included: 1. Banning watching of football 2. Banning the internet 3. No chewing miraa 4. No cigarettes 5. No education for girls6. Stoning to death women accused of adultery 7. Amputating the hands of accused thieves Guru what are your thoughts on #5? Not only are girls forbidden from studying. But in extreme cases such as the Taliban, girls who dare to go to school will have acid thrown in their faces.

In November there was a report that KDF is making illicit money from charcoal exports from Kismayu http://www.nation.co.ke/...a/1056-3442062-dhar8ez/
The amount mention by the Nation that KDF makes is a staggering Sh1.2bn per year, much of which goes to the senior officers. Farrah Maalim said on TV recently that this explains why they don't want to leave Somalia. It might also explain why they are so incompetent. KDF senior officers are paying more attention to these shady deals than actual military strategy. It might be partly why Shabaab are fighting KDF so aggresively since KDF has muscled them out of one of their sources of cash. And they can use this propaganda to recruit and discourage locals from helping KDF with much needed intelligence. This is basically fuel for making somalis hate KDF even more and this is a recipe for disaster.

Why deny what is in plain sight! Isn't it a fact that Alshabab, Boko Haram, Taliban and a host of other Islamists deny girls education! Isuni yilu yi maa me muyo - ni Mbisuu

I also heard some mucene that the soldiers who end in Somali pay something. This is because of the allowances they get.So those in the barracks who do not have the cash or know someone stay in Kenya. But when you see the colleagues who paid being brought back in coffins, how do you feel ? This does not seem to bother the big man up there , while Bush ,Obama and even Tony Blair went to Iraq to visit their soldiers, i have not heard anything from muthamaki, infact he had to go to Addis to see Amina loose, kweli mungu hali ugali.

Dunbar's number. Each alshabab has at least 150 persons who he interacts with and who also stands by what they stand by. Alphdoti is one of an alshabab's 150.

It is indeed true that soldiers bribe senior officers in order to be assigned to peace-keeping roles. I don't know how much AMISOM pays. But the UN pays soldiers about US$1400 per month. This is signifcant and can result in a private making more money than a Major. Back in the 1990s when Kenyan peacekeepers were sent to Yugoslavia, it was standard for senior army officers who were in charge of assignments to demand that each recruit who wants to go for a peacekeeping mission, must sign a promisory note to pay an amount to the senior official. This was usually 10% of what the UN was paying. These senior army officials made colossal amounts via such bribes. Its possible that something similar happens now. But the difference is that Yugoslavia was safe compared to Somalia. And I am also reading that KDF soldier morale is low because of unpaid allowances. And I would be curious to see whether the youth are still eager to join the army given what is happening now.

Hypocrite !!! @liv, let's leave side shows aside, this is national security matters. Among the dead, there were several Muslims. 2 of them I knew their families. So bro, I'm affected directly by this. Whenever our forces go to war be it with al shabab or any other enemy, we all are realistic enough to understand that unfortunately some of our troops are bound to fall, get injured or be captured! If this happens for a just cause, well it is a price we pay as a people. So the questions here are; Is fighting al shabab a just cause? Are all the commentators here able to pledge 100% loyalty with our troops or are some conflicted! Isuni yilu yi maa me muyo - ni Mbisuu
