Trade matters, protecting local production is different from funding the wall!!!

There are many other goods that Mexico will still try to sell to the US eg Mexican beer and tequila and that is what will build the wall. All these things are interrelated. Even us Kenyans we slapped some tax on all imports to fund the SGR. If our import tax is building our reli then Trumps import tax will build the wall.

Hence - bottom line - the citizens pay for the construction - period

If e.g. 100b was initially going to Mexico and after the Trump wall tax and trade reforms only 40B will be going to Mexico then it is the difference or the 60b that remains in the US (that would otherwise would have gone to Mexico) that will build the wall. Whichever way you look at it Mexico will end up paying for the wall. The least painful way Mexico would have paid for the wall was to write a cheque (pay upfront) as trump had suggested but they refused and now the trade war way will be devastating to Mexico for a very long time. Already many companies have shelved plans to invest in Mexico and plan to move to the US.

whichever way you look at it its the US taxpayer who will build the wall. He adds tax to the commodities the producer hikes the price, trade war am sure the max trump will make is the usual 4 years, second term ...... nah

The problem Hardwood that you Trumpians never understood about this conman is that he was lying from his teeth from day 1.

The world moved on from those days of tariffs and taxes to simply more efficient production.

Those American car manufacturers you love so much don't even make their parts in the US. Even the Japanese don't make their parts in Japan. Increase that tax in Mexico and tomorrow morning parts prices rise. Not the fake sijui 20 year gimmick his people are lying to you about.

The good thing about Trump is that he's America's problem.

The Chinese must be the happiest fellas in the world right now. Because surely other countries are watching this fella just go bananas.

Hardwood, we are not saying this stuff because he won...His winning is not important now.

We are just saying this just incase we get a madman here who wants to impose 20% tax on imports. Ati because by doing so, more Kenyans will get jobs. That's not even economics.

Americans can lie with the devil they got...

Mexico will end up paying for the wall either directly via taxes or indirectly via lost trade opportunities and lost investments.

Lest you forget;
As a candidate Trump said take the oil - Iraqi oil.
As president - after inauguration he reiterated the same - take the oil.

How reckless can it get!

US troops are currently in Iraq!

@hardwood, ask them to go pick on somebody their own size! Uncle Sam should leave little Mexico alone and pick on someone his own size. Russia said we won't bend a knee for them... China said they won't bend a knee for them... Now they couldn't face these two who stood up to him, now they are abusing a little guy who cannot fight back!

This is a war against the biggest oppressor the world has ever known, which side should you be brother @hardwood! Should you be cheering the bully?

Trump is also arguing with China.
In a way that is not too wise.

"Well, I'd say very simply that they are going to pay for it. I never said they're gonna pay from the start. I said Mexico will pay for the wall."

Quote:
DAVID MUIR: Mr. President, I want to start — we’re five days in. And your campaign promises. I know today you plan on signing the order to build the wall.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Correct.

DAVID MUIR: Are you going to direct U.S. funds to pay for this wall? Will American taxpayers pay for the wall?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Ultimately it’ll come out of what’s happening with Mexico. We’re gonna be starting those negotiations relatively soon. And we will be in a form reimbursed by Mexico which I will say …

DAVID MUIR: So, they’ll pay us back?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Yeah, absolutely, 100 percent.

DAVID MUIR: So, the American taxpayer will pay for the wall at first?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: All it is, is we’ll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico. Now, I could wait a year and I could hold off the wall. But I wanna build the wall. We have to build the wall. We have to stop drugs from pouring in. We have to stop people from just pouring into our country. We have no idea where they’re from. And I campaigned on the wall. And it’s very important. But that wall will cost us nothing.

DAVID MUIR: But you talked — often about Mexico paying for the wall. And you, again, say they’ll pay us back. Mexico’s president said in recent days that Mexico absolutely will not pay, adding that, “It goes against our dignity as a country and our dignity as Mexicans.” He says …

(OVERTALK)

PRESIDENT TRUMP: David, he has to say that. He has to say that. But I’m just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. And you have to understand what I’m doing is good for the United States. It’s also going to be good for Mexico.

We wanna have a very stable, very solid Mexico. Even more solid than it is right now. And they need it also. Lots of things are coming across Mexico that they don’t want. I think it’s going to be a good thing for both countries. And I think the relationship will be better than ever before.

You know, when we had a prisoner in Mexico, as you know, two years ago, that we were trying to get out. And Mexico was not helping us, I will tell you, those days are over. I think we’re gonna end up with a much better relationship with Mexico. We will have the wall and in a very serious form Mexico will pay for the wall.

DAVID MUIR: What are you gonna say to some of your supporters who might say, “Wait a minute, I thought Mexico was going to pay for this right at the start.”

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, I’d say very simply that they are going to pay for it. I never said they’re gonna pay from the start. I said Mexico will pay for the wall. But what I will tell my supporters is, “Would you like me to wait two years or three years before I make this deal?” Because we have to make a deal on NAFTA. We have to make a new trade deal with Mexico because we’re getting clobbered.
