Blue chip companies are:

- usually large companies,
- have existed long enough and hence time-tested, at least 5yrs,
- operate in easily understandable areas,
- Are not BADLY affected during periods of economic downturns,
- They are industry leaders,
- They make money for the shareholders.

So, from the above, i would say;

- Safaricom Limited,
- East African Breweries Limited,
- Kenya Commercial Bank Group,
- Equity Bank,
- Bamburi Cement Company,
- Kenya Power Company (KPLC),
- Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KENGEN)

You mean Jubilee Holdings does not fit there?

For forget the definition kplc and kengen are not bluechips. They have blue chip characteristics but deep down we all know they are not bluechips

It is worse than we can imagine. Would you say they are not affected by economic downturns, shareprices stagnating/below for close to 10 years....

Also they have not been making money for there shareholders in more than 5 yrs

It's a blue chip but not top 5 at the moment. I'm pretty sure there was a time it was top 5
