What happening to African football? This tournament has lost its glamour and apparently has the lowest viewing ever??

Wawawa I didn't even know Afcon was on...just saw some games on my odds while investing in sportspesa...what a fate? Back in the days these thing was advertised proper in both radio and print media...and we would get pictired of player's from the seals of coke. ..we called them "pasti"... I remember very the 1992 nations cup held in Dakar Senegal...we would buy t-shirts a month before the games...and select our teams before the game started. Portfolio: Sold

I also really enjoyed this game. It was end to end. The Senegal win was a welcome as I generally dont like the North African style of playing. Local football was very popular in the 1980s and we knew full squads if Gor,Ingwe, Mow Kakamega and even Bata Bullets! Truth forever on the scaffold

Road to Wembley!!! yes, plus football made in germany, but even back then the afcon was hugely followed and there was a lot of interest in the same, siku hizi hata kbc at times do not air the tournament ni akina supersport tu.

AFCON will never compete with the marketing juggernaut that is EPL.
The next best solution is to expand it to 24 teams like Euro 2016. This way you are guaranteed a larger TV audience because almost half the teams will qualify.
For example, at every AFCON that Naija does not qualify, you are potentially losing almost 10 to 20% of your TV audience. Not to mention other high population countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, SA, Zaire etc etc etc

Timing of the tournament is a big issue. It comes bang in the middle of the European season hence the club/country conflicts. Truth forever on the scaffold
