When you look at the recent M&A news ; the talk of ATT Merger with CNN Time Warner gives a predictive picture of the trend that may follow....content generation plus distribution. Media houses as known today will change into content and talent generators with the Safaricoms being the outlets. My bet is that look at the Zuku's and Safaricoms as the future "media companies"...and what about airtel? opportunities galore if you ask me.

Terryanne Chebet Pray Kirigo Ng’arwa as well as radio veteran radio presenter Anunda Sakwa Shisia Wasilwa, Elizabeth Omolo, Agao Patrobas and Nasteha Mohammed.

Now this is totally missing the point

Facebook is not a competitor to RMS or Nation. They are just additional channels of broadcasting content. Look at it this way, am on facebook if am in a mat or somewhere in a park. If an not near TV and I notice citizen airing something, I'll tune in, if its not on facebook, then I'll probably not see it. So competition is non-existent.

These media companies have fools running their online pages. They load clips with no sound, or description, overly edited etc.

Media owners will make sure that their staff do not have a union. Atworry cannot also go after them because he uses the media to stay relevant.

Let's summarise:

Standard Group is in ICU - just a matter of time...

Nation is in denial... Too dependent on the dying media of printed paper...

K24 is a re-election vehicle and I predict it's demise soon after...

Royal Media the only stable media house but needs a strategy/overhauling for the future.

BBI will solve it

That's why I said Linus Gitahi's group needed to go, that is Tom Mshindi and Linus Kaikai, these people are already conditioned to think in a particular way and cannot be changed. If you have had a priviledge of watching TV anywhere in the west you'll see the massive opportunity being missed by these people. But am hoping the Agakhan dev co is watching their stakes...

The beginning of the end.

I said it here and critics arose as usual.
Broadcasting in Kenya is just awaiting a few final nails. The only broadcasting that might survive for longer is one targeted at the low income market.
Middle class always points the way in a country's directional compass and the the upper middle class has migrated to pay TV and onto streaming content.
But our biggest let down is lack of professional, quality local content. We just don't have local content. All is not lost though as we are now in the era of bloggers and online broadcast which is open to everybody and this is exciting!

BBI will solve it

Broadcasters will now have to device ways and means of surviving in this rough tide. They will have to invest heavily in content creators. Its no longer enough to just look cute and read news, everyone can do that. As for print media, newspaper publishing could just be one revenue stream (which is dying ofcourse, most of us care less about them) but online publishing is taking shape. Amazon's owner bought the Washington post they are now publishing over 100 articles per day as the news flows and they are seeing the fruits of that. Its going to be rough, painful but NMG is making the right choices. Adapt or perish

The Kenyan stations behave the same. For example, on Sundays they fill the screens with christian religion stuff, there is no escaping it. When not on religion stuff, they serve a staple of Mexican (or where-ever) soaps. The short and long of it is that I no longer watch kenya television and read the Nation and Standard rags unless my employer buys for the office. The Nairobian I read at my barbers (and I go straight to the page with the girls)
