Hillary's mistake was going up and down the Midwest denigrating Trump's character to desperate people who had lost their jobs. Trump on the other hand told them what they wanted to hear. Trump promised to bring back the BIG 3 (Chrysler, Ford and GM) back to the Midwestern states. Ever since the auto industry collapsed in these States, these people have had to endure so much heartache. They had to walk out of their homes and watch their houses go into foreclosures, lose their sons and daughters to gun crime and drugs because of the poverty that was created, move to other States where they were not welcome and didn't have the neccessary skills to fit into the job markets there (most of these people had been in the auto industry their whole lives). I know so many people from Detroit who are bitter at how their lives took a downward spiral after the BIG 3 left.

Point is, these people don't really care how many women's genitals Trump has grabbed, they don't care if he refused to reveal his tax returns, they just want their jobs back so that they can go back to their homes and raise their families in a dignified manner.

When a person is desperate, they really don't care about politics, they just want to be given an opportunity to be productive. Trump promised them that. Hillary didn't. That was the difference. Nothing else mattered really. Not immigration, or even national security, the promise to bring back the BIG three and all the factories in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and West Pennsylvania won the day. If you look clearly, all the other States voted exactly like they were projected to vote, the only surprises were those four states which have traditionally been part of the Blue wall.

In other words, Hillary forgot to fix her house first before going to meddle in Syria and Libya and promising Illegal aliens path to citizenship and other goodies while her own citizens are wallowing in despair because their jobs were taken away. I believe Trump will make the Midwest great again. In three years, the BIG three and all it's affiliates will be back. People's livelihoods will always trump politics. Pun intended.

Hambuglar, you are just proving to me that people were conned by the best conman in the world ever.

Please advise us how the big 3 come back? Slowly please. Will Trump give the big 3 a bailout? Isn't that not what Obama did and was hated for by the very same fellas?

It's true that he told them what they wanted to hear. But my friend, there shall be no company in the world going to commit suicide by taking back production to the US.

They should have learned from the other parts of the country that moved away from manufacturing a long time ago and are flourishing.

It is economically unviable to run a manufacturing plant in the US. With the attitude of hating the chinese, the chinese will knock off each and every one of their ideas going forward.

Just look at the phone market in Kenya and notice how Samsung and even Infinix has eaten into Apple.

You have just highlited the same reason why Hillary lost the election. Pessimism. Hillary was subtly sending the message that BIG 3 and manufacturing will never come back to the US and that's why she lost heavily especially in the Midwest. People don't want to hear the word can't, they don't want to hear politics of why Obama's bailout for the BIG 3 failed, they want to hear somebody tell them that he will try every which way to bring back their beloved jobs and give them back their dignity.

The tactic that you are using is the same tactic Hillary's advisors failed on. A lot of democrats who hate Trump voted for him because they are tired of Washington politics. They need a fresh start and Trump being a wild card who as we've seen is capable of anything, could very well be the the person that finds a way to bring manufacturing back to the Midwest. That is why he was elected because he is coming from left field and contrary to Hillary, Trump might just find a way to bring back manufacturing to the Midwest. People don't want to hear your kind of pessimism, they want somebody who will look for solutions, any solution.

Masukuma had a brilliant quote about some biblical people staying put and not eating or tempting fate bu attacking the army and maybe eating in the end. That's what's happening here. Those Midwestern voters could have stayed put with Hillary and not eaten but they chose to go with Trump and maybe get something to eat.

You are still making the same mistake that Hillary made by being a pessimist about people's livelihoods. When it comes to survival, people don't want to hear the word CAN'T, they want somebody to tell them that maybe it CAN be done. We don't know how feasible it is but i know for sure that Trump will try. He is different and foolish or smart enough to try what most politicians won't touch. It's very telling that despite all the hostility between Trump and the Latino community, Trump still got more Latino votes than Romney. The Latinos are some of the biggest beneficiaries of these manufacturing jobs. That right there should tell you something. It should tell you that livelihoods and survival come before politics and personal feelings.

What is there to be optimistic about dying industries? If phones or cars are manufactured in America, no one will be able to afford them because of the expensive production costs. Its time they became realists - move on to new technology and adapt to change. Hanging on dreams and history has proved to be detrimental time and again.

Today's consumer wants clean and efficiently produced goods. Companies want profits, the other countries are offering them bait, of a) Cheap labor b) that is highly skilled. This is what Apple (Steve Jobs) told Obama when he asked about jobs coming back "the vast scale of overseas factories as well as the flexibility, diligence and industrial skills of foreign workers have so outpaced their U.S. counterparts that "Made in the USA" is no longer a viable option for most Apple products." Motorola did set up a plant in Texas but it closed in an year

For as long as those same workers will not agree to get paid less than $1 an hr, then they can forget about that "old" America. Now manufacturing is turning to robotics.

Humbaglar, I know and understand that the voter wanted to be told good and nice things. Not to be negative like me.

But I'm I being negative by highlighting the facts as they are?

If you go to Cambridge, Lowell, Lawrence, etc in Massachussets, you shall find very old buildings. Very old warehouses that used to run the milling and cotton industries. These towns were made for the cotton industry exporting huge amounts of clothes worldwide.

Somewhere along the way, these cotton mills died because of competition from cheaper sources such as India. Instead of the commonwealth of Massachussets crying about how illegal immigrants have taken over their jobs, they moved on.

You now find these towns are hubs of immigration. They have also converted those cloth factories into computer hubs with information hubs that gave you things like facebook.

The Massachussets economy has never failed and they are still looking for the next wave of ideas.

Now compare MA to the other states that keep on talking about illegal immigration. What does a fellow in Ohio know about illegal immigration. I doubt if there's a latino in that area anyway. While in Lawrence Massachussets even the cops are children of illegal immigrants.

Las Vegas is a desert. Total dessert. But instead of going manufacturing they decided that they can create a city of sin so that those Bible nuts could come and spend all their money there.

Hambuglar, there are things I can say to get me elected. If I want to be MP in Mathioya all I have to do is scream raira raira raira and I'm good to go.

Then there's reality.

There are no manufacturing jobs coming to the US ever again. Unless they create new manufacturing ideas eg green tech, they have been lied to.

That global economy they are so scared about is already here. Ask the Britons now coming up with all sorts of excuses to delay Brexit.
Thieves are not good people. Tumeelewana?

@muchr - Let me tell you.... once you are in the works you get to know how complicated things are. I have a saying - KAZI YA WENGINE NI RAHISI KUSHINDA YAKO! It happens everytime a noob is running for office. The Narrative is always the same.
- these guys don't know what they are doing
- these i will change everything

the guy gets into office and 4-5 years later... the story is always
- it's going to take time to get results
- things are not as easy as they look

I think some business is SIMPLE and HARD, politics is COMPLEX and HARD. Those two require two sets of skills. Will Trump change stuff? will it work - I don't know. He has no excuse (rather than time of course), he has congress, the senate and the judiciary. Waiting for the excuses in 2020.

The Hillary team is the establishment team - they know these facts and realities and have had their chance along comes a new comer who says.. HOW HARD CAN IT BE? if he was in Kenya his proposal would be something like "SI YOU JUST [INSERT SOLUTION STATEMENT HERE]". The truth is... Next year we will hear Uhuru giving us explanations and if a new guy rises who does not have excuses for bread and butter things - atapata kura!

On the type of voters that voted for Trump - there are 2
1) the guys who love him.. these are the *ists (Racists, Nationalists, Mysgonits)
2) the guys who dislike him but are willing to put up with him (The midwestern, rust belt lot, latinos and african americans e.t.c.)

Remember the Mbadi's quote about akina Michuki in 2010- "our 'Yes' is not the same as their 'Yes'". But the KatiMBA required both for better or for worse. Trump required the two and I think both lots will be disappointed as soon as Trump realises that politics is a different kettle of fish from business.
