Maybe I should change incompetent to inadequate.
I say this because there should be CCTV cameras monitoring the strong room. This way security would know where to go.

Or maybe they were too afraid to venture in and confront men armed with AK 47s

With regard to bystanders, they say that the alarms were loud enough such that even if you were asleep, you would have woken up.

hapa kenya, when a bank is closed down in the evening nobody is left inside the banking hall hata the security guys, and definitely the security guys have no access to realtime cctv from the strongroom.

I don't know about the whole plan, and who was involved, but I am thinking a typical scenario would be, the alarms go, the security guys jump into their rapid response proboxes and rush to the branch, they walk around and see nothing since the thieves got in via an adjacent building, they check the roof see nothing and assume its the alarms going mad, they do not have the keys to the banking hall so they can not venture inside to confirm.

so of course they hang around and wait for the branch manager to come with the keys.

In this situation, at least what is being reported the thieves just happened to outsmart the whole bank process, which as I mentioned happens even in the west.

The above bolded points bolster my points about inadequate or incompetent security.

With regard to the west, it is far more difficult. Firstly almost every business has realtime CCTV even your local duka because they are often victimized by burglars and robbers.

And I am fairly certain that in the west, security would not just hang around waiting for the branch manager. Kwani the branch manager has a gun to shoot these burglars ama vipi?

And finally , in the west, burglars are in and out of the bank in a very short period. Meanwhile police are saying that in the case of Equity, the burglars were in there for six to ten hours ! They had time to dislodge the ATM

If alarms are sounding for 6-10 hours starting at 8 pm and security did not do anything then we really cannot defend it by saying "This also happens in the west" Can we ?

Haha those security guys are just jokers, I pressed that ka-button in the house and they just came in casually not to respond but to reset the thing.
How many times do those alarms go off in town in estates and everyone just goes on with their business just like in car alarms?
As above every kenyan would capitalize on any opportunity to steal, for this heist who loses, Equity? Insurance? it's no one's money to them.
Anyway the JOB will lead to banks closing that loophole, they usually switch off all lights and the security guys is outside at the front, plus how many guys have access to the bank design plans and safe spects.
The empty shop when was it vacated maybe it was part of a long plan for the job.

Is the owner of the kiosk the owner of the building where the bank has leased?

So the strong rooms in banks are not being monitored by CCTV at night?

I thought they disconnected CCTV

The CCTV should have recorded the events until the moment when it was disconnected. Therefore there should be some footage of the thugs gaining entry into the bank/strong room. Unless they also made away with the hard drive.

They made 15b and fired 400.....

BD headline was misleading. The 400 is total staff reduction through retirement, resignation, firing etc without being replaced: natural attrition

KTN news anchor Joy Doreen Biira has thanked Kenyans for prayers that led to the recovery of her car on Friday.

Biira's Mercedes-Benz, valued at Sh2.8 million, was reportedly stolen from Standard Group Media's parking slot on Mombasa road on December 23.

"At about 20:55hrs she realised that her car keys were missing from her desk," Makadara police said in a statement.

Police said when she went to check her vehicle, it was missing.

Police said Biira's Benz was driven out of the premises by a fellow workmate, Aron Ochieng', without her knowledge.

"She reported the matter at Industrial area police station where investigations commenced leading to the recovery of the vehicle in Kisumu," police said.

But the registration number of the vehicle had been changed from KBY 831K to KCH 117L and is currently at Kisumu Police station.

Ochieng' and two security guards who were on duty are in police custody at Industrial Area in Nairobi awaiting further action.

So, what does discussing how, 'our thugs are getting bolder' imply in our world system?

It means we must have thugs, only that they should be timid.

The main issue isn't the thug. We own him/her. The issue is the 'boldness'.

And all these posts are about that. That's the hypothesis. Can we take a random sample to prove it?

Finished. Hypothesis affirmed. Till the next survey...

If what the "thief" claims is true then this country is rotting top down so fast. Conspire to steal "your" car, sell it and also cash in from insurance compensation...SMH. No wonder insurance firms are making losses. This need to be investigated comprehensively. By the way that car value is not 2.8m and cant be.
