How will the world economy react now that @Trump is all but poised to win the 2016 US presidential polls?
The Aussi and Asia markets are already tumbling down.
Will Kenya's market catch the flu?

The world shall do just fine. aka brexit where supermarkets products just shot up in pricing in britain.

The issue is how the US economy shall do. In their minds they think they'll get more jobs now since manufacturers will be forced to build stuff in the US.

I don't know who told them the world will buy overpriced products but they are ok to try.

The world shall do just fine. Go buy gold. and sell oil futures.

The best is that Fed chair Yellen has at least give in her resignation she was too political. QE nonsense comes to an end and interest rates start to normalize. China has to step up to stop capital flight. America becomes more inward looking. for Africa who really gives a damn! Not a single mention during the campaigns which is really good because Africa now looks East.

For Kenya the Eurobond becomes a risk once interest rates start to normalize. Treasury must start fiscal consolidation asap. If not then just like Trump has finished the Clinton and Bush dynasty our kenyan dynasty is going to be in problems. Welcome to the new world order.

An introverted US means the world economy will contract, reduced production in China and Asia.

Looking forward to lower oil prices and overall lower market prices for manufactured goods.

On the flip side, innovation will slow down and with it slower improvement of productivity.

But!

Trump is a businessman so maybe nothing will really happen. He will soon discover that his rhetoric about being a tough negotiator works in business where the bottomline of profit and shareholders return does not apply to politics where peoples emotional needs transcends all. Then he will revert to status quo.

Who cares about what the world buys. Trump is pro made in America. American companies must produce in America to sell in America. They can produce in China to sell to the world. Americsn market is too large to be ignored. Jobs will grow, immigration will increase into America. Same policies we should be pursuing were it not for our stupidly corrupt monkey brain personas. There should be a law like to sell chips in kenya, you must buy potatoes in kenya. To sell clothes in kenya, the cloth must be cut in kenya at the very least or even better, cotton grown in Kenya. Who cares what a T shirt costs in China. What matters is the benefit of a T shirt made in Kenya , for Kenya.

Naona kizungu imekuzidi. I am saying we should have a strong policy to have as much of whatever is sold in Kenya to be made in Kenya, starting with daily consumables like food, snacks, tomato sauce etc and going up to clothes and cars. No reason at all to import mitumba cars. We should invite 2 or 3 companies to exclusively assemble cars for kenya and east africa by extension.

Hopefully, a Trump economy will re introduce market protectionist policies as a good thing. We should protect our markets at all costs. However, politicians open us up for rape every where you look. We focus on foreign quality rather than grow local competition to improve quality. Farmers suffer for lack of market access, yet supermarkets are filled up with foreign crisps, tomatoes, beans, ndengu etc. Carpenters suffer for clients yet supermarkets sell seats from China. Tailors are non existent. Bata has become a trading company rather than manufacturing company. We are an economy of traders. Our fortunes are dictated by the manufacturing masters abroad.

Protectionism is not known to work in developing countries. Current world trends indicate that free trade is more advantageous. Yes the US can bring back more jobs back home, the resulting effect is higher commodity prices. US labour is not cheap.

That is the same thing Trump is saying but here's the problem and let me explain it to you slowly.

That economy of made in kenya coz i love kenya died ages ago. Consumers will buy what is cheap and not what is made in America.

If you enter a wallmart, there's nothing made in the US. So assume trump says all goods made in usa only. so walmart has the american goods but guess what, the buyers can't afford it. Lower sales and revenue, falling share price and a drop in all these people's retirement funds.

Let's look at labour costs. The average american motor worker used to get 40 dollars an hour. Now this is the rust belt fellow who's complaining he can't get a job. He's now said he's going to chase away all mexicans. But shall he do the job for 10 dollars? So lower production for us manufacturers.

The reality on the ground and the wishful thinking from neanderthal former factory workers are two entirely different things.

It's like telling your kids to become a makanga because when you were young makangas used to get a lot of cash.

I hope you understand why we say, Trump is a conman and a now I agree a great conman.

Ati buy American? That shall never happen. Otherwise the French shall say, don't sell us things from America and vice versa.

But I'll believe you when I see one thing in your home that is actually and honestly made in Kenya..

Thats where you go wrong. Consumers will buy what is available to satisfy their need. Cost considerations come second. Cost considerations will lead to innovative business processes.

tom_boy that experiment was tried by walmart et al and they adopted the current one based on simple math.

These americans are very good at gloating about their country. but when it comes to paying more money for their own goods, they won't do it. In fact, they can't afford it.

Trump himself buys steel from China. Go figure

My friend, that made in america label is fake, nothing is produced their anymore.

That is why each and every manufacturer in the US from apple, to microsoft, hp, et al produce their products outside the country.

Their citizens feel too proud to do real work and I don't expect that to change.

Reality is going to hit these fellows hard. There are two realities

1. Trump implements what he told them - In which case, I'll start buying gold now.
2. Trump has no intention of implementing any promise -

Either way, they are Turkeys who went to church to pray for thanks giving.

Here we disagree....it depends on the good, consumables yes. Competition leads to innovation, not cost. Innovation shall decline with the proposed.

The made in America label is fake because companies have no incentives to make in America. Trump will create those incentives, lower taxes, market protection from cheap imports. Americans may buy a commodity at twice the price in China but so what. What matters is not the cost / price of a commodity but the value chain created by that commodity.

A 200 sh loaf of bread that has employed kenyans is of far greater value to our country than a 50sh loaf imported from China. People are better of sacrificing to buy the bread than buy a mtumba car. The country will be better off.
