Seems most retailers (Supermarkets) are having problems! What are the underlying issues. Someone needs to do a study of the retail market in Kenya. MBA students in the house, kazi kwenu. This might even be worth a PhD - if you can access the proper data that is.

I think it has more to do with governance and management challenges. Remember most of these started as small shops in Nakuru. Over time they have grown and founder owners died. With succession in play, the incoming new owners might not have the patience to study implications of expansion and most importantly how to manage cashflows (not just calling in and taking cash for personal reasons but rather devising a dividend payment policy).
Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.
