Hi good guys,
Anyone have an estimate on how much a km costs on a 2500cc petrol SUV like a Pajero GLX or a Prado. Running costs only i.e petrol, tyres, wear & tear, service. Do not include fixed costs like cost of car (depreciation, loan), insurance.
Your input will be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks My friend recently upgraded from a 2005 2l Xtrail to a 2009 2.7l prado vvti and tells me fuel consumption is a fraction of the Xtrail. Says that he now uses about 2k fuel a whole week in his commute from home to work. He has done only one normal service at 10k. Tyres are still new but you can look up prices at tyre dealers.

In my estimation this is Possible only if its petrol and "your friend" Covers at most30km pd without accounting for traffic. diesel gives 10-30%more ecconomy. It's petrol and he commutes on waiyaki way. And its true a diesel would have given him more mileage, they are known to do >20km per litre.

The querry was on running costs and not fuel economy? That 20km per litre for the diesel is on the higher side..also the service intervals for the diesel are shorter and more costly than for the petrol.. http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/prado/2009

Thanks Hi, I will give you an example of a ‘friends’ diesel landcruiser/prado. Normal fuel expense per month is around 20K, car only used in Nairobi (Soccer Moms), Service every 3-4 months of about 15K, major issues have been proactively replacing tires after 3 years (100K), brake pump failure (200K!) and new springs (30K); and a perennial a/c leak that was easier to refill the gas than sort out (laziness)40,000 That brings the total bill per year to Fuel 20,000 x 12 = 240,000 Service 15,000 x 4 = 60,000 A/C 40,000/2 = 20,000 (only over 2 years) Parts Prorated for Year (200,000+100,000+30,000)/3 = 110,000 Total/year = 430,000 Month approx. 36K P/S This is a town car P/S For a Range Rover, add a “Zero” to the figures/hesabus Quote:Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own...

@MatataMingi, Actual running costs are easy to work out. Just open an excel sheet, list the items, costs and hulla!, you have the actual running costs. For estimates, any reliable auto website will provide you with manufacturers standards, which may not apply in this part of the wild where the variables are unpredictable My 1 cent "Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least." My 1 cent Is this advice based on an assumption that he already has the car or he is looking into buing a car? If he is planning to buy a car;How on earth he will be able to tell the km/litre, frequency of parts replacement, cost of parts if he doesn't have the car? Let him go to AA as advised by @Thegeek If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

Chaka wrote:@iKenya, So,how many kms does that landcruiser cover in a year? An average of about 20-25K Km/Y, since the service intervals have been replaced by dates (every 3 months-ish) as opposed to every 5K KMs or so. Quote:Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own...
