As confirmed by @baba. This will kill Ukambani, Garisa and some low lying kiuk areas! #secretprojects Quote:Cord leader Raila Odinga has alleged that the government is building a Sh6.8 billion water tunnel in Murang’a County that would have a devastating impact on the environment.
Mr Odinga on Monday claimed the Northern Collector Tunnel will gather water at the source in the Aberdare forest and divert it to Thika's Ndakaini Dam for use in Nairobi County.
"Seven rivers are targeted. All of them feed the River Tana, which is the source of livelihood for communities in Ukambani, Murang'a, Garissa, Tana River and north Mathioya,” he said.
He alleged that the project would turn the four regions “into a desert in five years” after implementation.
He claimed the project is against the Constitution because it ignored the right to public participation.
He alleged the Jubilee government is keeping the project a secret because it is aware of the devastating effects.
Related Content Govt moves to curb water shortage The Cord leader claimed the project began in 2014 and has been classified by the World Bank as a Category A project, which means the sensitive and devastating effects are irreversible.
He said former Environment minister John Michuki (now late) had raised objections to the project.
He further claimed that the Murang’a County Assembly had also raised concerns about the project and mandated its water, energy, forestry, environment and natural resources committee to investigate it.
Mr Odinga opposes the project though he unveiled a plan for it on September 18, 2012 when he was prime minister.
The project involved a first phase of sinking wells in Kiunyu and Ruiru to increase water supply by 64,800 cubic metres per day.
In phase two, a tunnel was to be constructed to divert the Irati, Gikigie and Maragua rivers, while the third phase involved building the Maragua and Ndarugu dams Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

OK, he has seen the light What light? He is just playing to the gallery with his double standards. If he has indeed seen the light, he should apologize for the "darkness he was in" and then lobby for cancellation of the project.

Yesterday, while being interviewed by Hassan of Citizen Tv, he suggested that he was seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Little did i know that the said tunnel was in Mathioya. Stuff happens!! Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Is Muranga paid for all this water it supplies Nairobi? If Saudi Arabia gets paid for its oil, then Muranga should be paid for its water. Maybe get something like 40% of all revenues collected by Nairobi Water Co. http://allafrica.com/stories/201501090894.html

I am not missing the bigger picture here. Raila and his 'dreaming team" seem to have a grand scheme that involves discrediting the government of the day in areas where they had started making inroads. Infact, the bigger scheme is to discredit the government amongst all Kenyans except in RV and Gema nation. This one was an easy target since it involves birrions and targets the Kambas and Somali community. I hope he gets seen for his evil scheme of 40 against 2.WATCH! Below is a billboard of the "secret project". The billboard is 3 years old! Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I think the idea is to have something new to rally Cordasians around for the next few weeks before he gets another none. Luckily Kenyans have grown beyond this propaganda story and can see things objectively. Those who will be fooled by him...tutasema poleni sana. nope... it doesn't work that way! not with water! if it did countries down stream of a river would be paying countries upstream for water. Water is a collective resource. Water is a National resource as envisioned by the Water Act 2016 which has repealed Water Act 2002.As such no devolved unit can lay claim to such a resource.
