@milken -
So do we expect to see shortages again?
Is there a lot of 'untaxed' fuel in the market? Any idea/guess on how much?

Here is the reason why KQ is going down
Oil Prices

“The story this month is the sharp rise in oil prices. We predicted that 2011 would see a consecutive second year of profitability but with industry profits falling by 40% to $9.1 billion. This was based on an oil price of $84 per barrel (Brent). Fuel accounts for 27% of operating costs and a sustained rise in the oil price could spoil the party. With uncertainties in the Middle East, oil prices are now hovering near the $100 per barrel mark. For every dollar increase in the average price of a barrel of oil over the year, airlines face the difficult task of recovering an additional $1.6 billion in costs,” said Bisignani.

@thedeal - True on the costs side... but oil prices are expected to drop if the protests don't spread beyond Egypt

That said... airlines nowadays tack on fuel surcharges & I expect the days of 6,200/- fares are long gone! KQ's offer was till 24 Feb but I doubt they will extend it!

The delay in release of 3Q passenger numbers is another contributing factor...how can the CEO go air like that and yet not spice up the share...is it because he owns 0 shares of the company he runs?

That does piss me off... Why doesn't he & KQ's senior management few or no shares? I brought that issue up... I didn't get a clear answer... [More like no answer!]

Anyway, Segman has shares/options in KK... I like that!

KQ is still attractive, but this $100+ brent oil games are not too comfy either. I thought that it would take up to 2H to see $100 oil, but alas, in Jan & Feb we're there...

hisah, what do you think will be the effect of high oil prices on oil companies both in Kenya and abroad

Expensive oil has a cool off effect on any economy since input costs become unbearable. Therefore oil firms plus oil clients suffer from reduced demand and costly end products respectively.
$15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

If only the market would start to factor in a peaceful election. i believe there'll be one .
then a rally would ensue.

Seeing as KQ will always be here with us, and that the price is at an all time low, this should be an excellent moment to jump in...
