Kenya's beach tourism is expensive relative to Egypt. When the West Africans wake up to the prospects of beach tourism they could steal our thunder... The flights are much shorter from Europe to West Africa.

On point, he should have been rubbished on the spot. The whole of North Africa is stealing the show - Tunisia and Morocco too. Many destinations in West Africa are no go zones, e.g. Lagos.

Jameni! Lagos isn't West Africa. There's so much more to West Africa than Lagos. They (& the Europeans) killed off their wildlife so we are lucky in that respect that we can offer "beach & wildlife" holiday packages.

I have heard very good things about Tunisia. Clean, safe and well-priced.
Egypt's all-inclusive packages for (real) 4-star hotels are amazing. A return flight to Hurghada from London with HB for 1 week = $1,000!
Try to get that at a KE beach hotel with a flight on KQ from Nairobi.

Lagos is the mother of conference tourism in West Africa.

Tunisia, Egypt?? Who would want to go there at this time.. Some people here seem not to be acquainted with BBC, CNN..

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly I watch Al-Jazeera
Tunisia is quite safe. And clean. And inexpensive vs Kenya. And easier (& cheaper) to get to for European tourists than using KQ.

Then why not apply for citizenship in Egypt seeing as it's soo clean and nice. Even Zuckerberg is seeing a better side to Kenya than some of the so called Kenyans.. SMH

Tunisia not Egypt. Ethiopia for the babes. Rwanda Pray Pray Pray I will fly the airline that offers me value. And holidays that offer value. 3-4 days in Diani/Kilifi or Eldoret or Kisumu is a-OK. 2 weeks? I start looking elsewhere.

Not many Kenyans have seen this country well and those that have, haven't travelled elsewhere to compare. Kenya is a class apart and even Google at the very basic can prove it

I agree. Folks should fly to Kenya. And they do. On BA, Lufthansa, Emirates, Etihad, RwandaAir, Ethiopian...

KQ will never have enough capacity to ferry the entire globe. Even amidst competition, a business can remain viable

Kwani? When tourists visit Kenya, do they spend their days in Kibera? [Well, some do but...]

I was referring to beaches and the cost of a Brit spending a week in Nyali vs Hurghada. Who wants to spend time in fetid places in Cairo, Mombasa or Nairobi?

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Haiya! Are we back to ad hominem attacks? Discuss facts.

As an Investor:KQ is loss-making, Negative Equity = Poor investment.
As a customer: Expensive vs competition be it flights to Kigali, Entebbe, Addis, Accra, Dubai, Mumbai, Guangzhou or London. Delayed flights. I am OK spending 4 hours more on a connecting flight if it saves me $200. Yes, I am cheap. No expense account. No free upgrades courtesy of the CEO of KQ.

As a Customer: I fill up at KK not Shell/Total. Value for money. 2/- discount on my K-Card. Plus some stations give additional discounts.
As an Investor: KK has Profits. Dividends. Growing profits. Potential takeover. Money, money, money!

The way @obiero is viewing Tunusia and Egypt via the goggles of CNN and BBC is the same way the WEST is viewing Kenya with the same goggle.
Ask any mzungu huko mayuu and all he knows about Kenya is bombing everywhere, mall attacks daily, college siekkes everyday...he need to know how these Western media are chiuned.

He will be surprised if he was to land in Tunusia today; he will realized he's been watching the WRONG tv all this time!

@obiero it seems some people are bleating here because they lack relevant information. I spoke with a German elderly woman who has made several tours to African countries for the last 3 decades. She told me Kenya is incomparable to other nations in the continent. Kenya prides in aesthetic flora and fauna attracting tourists from across the globe especially Europe, North America, Canada, Australia the list is endless. Beautiful sceneries along the Great Rift Valley, historical sites, cultural events-ceremonies and rituals- amongst Kenyan communities e.g the Maasai in the Rift valley and Mijikenda across the coastline. You people are not aware some Wazungus come to Kenya to see Maasai and Ogiek . Most importantly the 8th wonder of the world, Great wild beast migration from Maasai Mara to Serengeti in Tanzania.

For some people kusoma ni noma... so they just want to payuka about what some German lady said.
I wrote about "beach holidays" na jamaa anapayuka about Ogieks. I wrote about "beach holidays" and jamaa can't stop payukaring about Rift Valley.

Instead of figuring out why folks fly other airlines instead of KQ, the ad hominem attacks are about why one should support KQ with its delays, poor customer service and high prices.

[Meanwhile, my next trip is on airline whose stewardesses one wants to stare at as they walk up or down the aisle.] #TeamMafisi

If it was not for the constant Taxpayer funded bailout, I would not even care about KQ.

KK, KenRe, Unga, I&M - All profitable. No GoK bailout. All pay dividends.

Comparison of Arrivals into Tunisia vs Kenya by air 2006 numbers. 4.14mn vs 0.95mn

Jingoism means little. Facts are better.

KK's sales volumes are more important to me than claiming it's got "Kenya" in its name. "Kenya Oil" = Kenol.

Compare the "natural appeal" of Dubai (a city/state) vs Kenya (a country) yet how many tourists does Dubai get vs Kenya?
How many Kenyans go to Dubai on holiday?
How many Emiratis come to Kenya on holiday?
How many pax fly Emirates?
How many fly KQ?
How many Kenyans (& East Africans) fly Emirates? [I am not even counting Fly Dubai & Etihad]
How many Kenyans (& East Africans) fly KQ?

Unless we stop KQ continuing as a feeding trough for crooks, we will make little progress.

Instead of figuring out why folks fly other airlines instead of KQ, the ad hominem attacks are about why one should support KQ with its delays, poor customer service and high prices.

If it was not for the constant Taxpayer funded bailout, I would not even care about KQ.

KK, KenRe, Unga, I&M - All profitable. No GoK bailout. All pay dividends.

Those 2006 figures are outdated and mainly speak to the business community.. As for tourism specific, even Tunisians know that Kenya is a better package. On Dubai, they receive more visitors because of people like you who keep putting your country down. The End

‘Open sky’ policy to ease travel and boost EA tourism

http://www.nation.co.ke/...69074-ihfycs/index.html

Good news for travelers and airlines.
Next, EAC should apply only "local/domestic" taxes on EAC flights. Why pay $260 RT (on RwandaAir) NBO-KGL-NBO or $350 RT (on KQ) NBO-DSM-NBO when a huge part of that goes to taxes? Cheaper flights will encourage more travel within EAC.

Kenyans need to visit UG. Tanzanians should come see Nairobi. Ugandans can see the wonders of Selous. Rwandans should see the elephants in Marsabit. Tanzanians the beautiful Lake Kivu.

Plus trade in goods & services within EAC would see a boost. More inter-EAC trade is required to improve our lot.

The Internet has refused to mention Tunisia or Egypt as top destinations.. Maybe @vvs is referring to backpackers http://www.africa.com/af...-10-travel-destinations/

"The Internet" is not made up of one URL. Egypt is way more popular as a recommendation than Kenya. Try a google search with "top tourist destinations in Africa". And in case you did not know, what shows up on the Internet depends of how savvy the website builder/marketer is.
