Nigerian Tycoon DANGOTE has sent shiver down the spines of cement firms in the Kenyan market with imports from his Ethiopian factory. His brand goes for Ksh 370 per 50kg bag, almost half the price of Kenyan brands. Kenyan brands goes for btw Ksh 600 - 1200 per 50kg.

Its actually 381/= at bank rates of 103 to the dollar. And that's ex-factory in Ethiopia. factor in transport costs, distributor & retailer margins, duties, levies and VAT and that easily comes to about 600/=

So why does our cement cost so much, local prices I assume have no duty and transport costs from Ethiopia included.

Is it the case of super profits like the banks
