It was played because Kenya had won a gold medal in the marathon. It's not like it had been lined up to be played during the closing ceremony. If another country had won, then it is their anthem that would have been played. That said, I do understand your need to feel special, and on top of the world.

So it was not played during the closing ceremony?

I think it raises important issues regarding human sexual diversity and sport since sport classifies one as either male or female while in essence gender is a continuum with individuals having different degrees of maleness or femaleness. In Semenya's case she has no womb or ovaries but has balls (internal). I assume she has an airport. Due to this I think its unfair for her to compete with "classical" women, women without the benefit of testestorone.

We don't need to start a new thread for anything and everything that happened in Rio or with the olympic heroes. This one thread is enough. We can discuss all Rio related matters right here.

I know sometimes kufikiria for Trump supporters ni ngumu but hii thread inaitwa 'Kenyan Anthem during Closing ceremony' na kuna ingine inaitwa 'Semenya allowed to compete as a woman by IAAF' - which do you think is appropriate to put Semenya and her gender related case on?
HINT: it has 'Semenya' on the title!!

The "Semenya-on-the-title" thread is an old thread. Why put new wine in an old wineskin?

Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined.

That thread is old, pre-Rio. Why take breaking Rio and post Rio matters to that old thread while this one is discussing current Rio related ssues? We should move with the times.
