Kiprop lost 1500m to an American, he came 6th. He needs to change his strategy

Asbel sometimes gets his tactics wrong at critical moments

That 1500M men.... That American knew what he was doing. He moves to the front at the start, slow down the race and reduce it to a just a jog. A 1500M race tactically converted to a splint race. A 400 meter runner could have won the race. Kiprop should have by now realised his strength and may be generally Kenyan's strength i.e ability to remain stronger when everyone else is tired. This should have been achieved by making the race much much faster. The slow pace cost Kenya a medal.

In the next few years, poor countries will not be getting medals. These world powers are training hard. The US Olympic team is recruiting the 2020 Olympian team

Free Advise To My Friend Dr. Hassan Wario, PhD

Waziri,

You are amongst a handful of Cabinet Ministers I am privileged to call my friends. Our friendship is mainly because we have surmounted our humble backgrounds. It is because of our shared life trajectory that I make this public advise.

The President rightly made you our Minister for Sports, Culture & The Arts. As a Professor of History & Anthropology, no one is more qualified than you for this triple responsibility. You alone are in a unique position to create a Kenya that is a fusion of kaleidoscope colors of tribe and culture. You alone has the responsibility of making Kenya what it truly is: the Origin of Mankind. You alone has the responsibility of making Kenya a sports superpower. Kalenjins don't need dope to win races. Luos and Luhyas don't need steroids to play football and rugby. Kisiis are made for sprints with their compact bodies. Masaais can throw javelin for fun. The Dunfords swim because they have swimming pools all over.

But, the Ministry has under-performed. Kenyan athletes have succeeded without any help from the Ministry. AK and NOCk continue to be run by same cartels that ran it since I was in Standard One. You have been unable to break it. When you took over the Ministry four years ago, I advised you informally and pro bono to disband all Sports Federations and risk global temporary ban but for national good in the long run. You didn't take my advice. The scandal and shambolic planning of Rio Olympics maybe turn out to be the midnight of your public career. It maybe too late, but you have nothing to lose by acting this very late in the night to disband all Sports Federations.

Sports is one of three parts of your Ministry. Act on the other two also. The Presidency can only support you if you give them a reason to. So far, you haven't. You have left Kenyans holding the short end of the stick. Don't let your career end at midnight. Surviving to the rising of the sun is in your hands alone.

In such a final it comes down to team work kwemoi should have sacrificed and made it a fast final no way kiprop would have led from gun to tape.Again most of this top runners wamesomwa na fellow competitors we have seen dibaba ,ayana and now kiprop.

Pace setting was NOT the problem. Elite athletes don't need pace setters to win. Its a question of getting your tactics right. Asbel miscalculated. I can't imagine El Guerrouj or Lagat making such a blunder.

yes - they butchered that race by running like they didn't know each other. it was too slow - someone should have burnt the field and made the last sprint unbearable for many. Slow races are the worst - the sprinters win them. King David Rudisha runs from the front, Conseslus from the front. The unaona Asbel all over the place coz it's a slow race and with characters like makhloufi huko utaona moto if you leave it until the last 200m.

Kenyans should never ever let any other country win the Olympic marathon. Having the national anthem play at the closing ceremony is everything.
