Why not construct a refinery close to the source of production and distribute the refined product for local consumption at cheaper cost for mwananchi.
ridiculous!!!!
The crude will be transported by road from the Lokichar basin oil fields to Eldoret, from where it will be loaded onto a train or trucked to Mombasa.

Surely you can't trust that with potential rebels who have guns that they use looking after their animals

I'm worried about the curse of black gold in africa.i don't think there is any country in Africa with oil and no war? It was only only Libya ....

I hope we won't be used to kill each other because of this oil

An oil refinery is not one of those structures that come up overnight.

4000 bbl/d is also such a small amount, even the obsolete Mombasa refinery(design capacity 80,000 bbl/d) would be underutilised.

This is a long term project so I struggle to understand such emotional arguments.

@mkate has a very valid question: I'm curious, is the plan for all crudes in Kenya to be transported to Msa for refining? This does not seem like an efficient or economical plan.
Secondly, who owns the crude? Is it not the guys drilling the stuff - until they pay back their investment? Government will only collect some taxes for awhile, but I stand corrected.

the refinery question is the same as what Ndii was asking on SGR, does it make sense to take the SGR to Naivasha and build factories there or build factories along the coast.
I think the Govt will revive the refinery, but meanwhie we will go the Nigerian way, sell crude buy refined, which is a poor model.
