@Muganda .. i did not mislead anyone....u totally misunderstood my wall post.. i indicated that in putting forward our views we should clerly distinguish the Black ZTE-EVDO..modem (which rolled out in july 2009 and is sim-card less) and the white EVDO-MODEM that is currently in the market.

as u correctly put it ,one is from ZTE and the other HUAWEI..but both use the EV-DO technology. But for some reason i have a colleague who bought it and tells me its not as stable as the black one...All in all i think its all a matter of preference....and i have a big bias for the blackmodem ..i wouldnt even trade it in for 20 k......
The black modem was going for kshs.3990- and i called my orange agent and confirmed its no longer in stock. The white modem that uses a sim-card and goes for about 3 k--is the one in
n stock

@Emiseda

EVDO is a CDMA upgrade like Safcoms 3G only that its speed is lower than 3G. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EVDO. So regarding speed Safcom wins hands down. However cost wise it may not be the best option

i have not been able to connect my huawei orange EVDO modem for the last three days (msa area)...keeps saying "error...the remote computer did not respond". called orange n they seem to suggest it is my modem but i know it is not coz i have tested it in the office as well. anyone has had similar probs?? and again, is it normal for this modem to keep dropping the connection evry so often. it is annoying n am thinking of unlocking the damn thing!

what is 3G+ ? And how can orange have 3G+ if they dont even have 3G? Plus what? I think its meant to be minus.
Speed and quality safaricom takes the title but they are very expensive. I wait for their unlimited offers and go all out.

Both Seacom and TEAMS fibre optic cables suffered massive disruptions today hence the slow internet speeds and difficulties in making some international calls...

Me I'm bright and dandy as relates to my Safaricom modem's performance over the last couple of days. In fact I only read on Wazua and heard curses in the office.

Many ISPs crying on account of Seacom and Teams. Bravo Safaricom

I agree safcom seems to be the only ones who can satisfy my needs. But I will end up broke considering what I do.

For those using orange, do you also get time outs after 5 min of use?

I'm wondering if its a modem issue. Those that unlocked their safcom, to orange, do you still get time outs.

As for KDN. Use at your own risk. No service this whole month, no bills since december even after asking for them and a call from finance demanding for payment even after they know they have not delivered any services the whole month and never will...

so I'm back to safcom

safaricom is KING! when it comes to data lakini wanaumizaa mifuko! they kill the fun of downloading when surfing the net. @washere2010 Orange 3G+ is CDMA so you can not get 3g speeds with your orange line in a surfcom modem! you just have to pay for the bundles! lol no other option but the better option!

I think Safaricom has given up the lower end data market to Orange.Just look at how Orange is so aggresive w/ its marketing of its CDMA internet.I mean u'd expect Safaricom to counter this move w/ an offer of its own but it just continues to buy up companies to provide internet to the high end data market so plainly Safaricom cannot take on Orange in the low end of the data market. It would be a case of too little to late
The fight now will be between Orange and Zain.Whilst Safaricom fight it out with the likes of KDN,Swift kenya and so on.
As for convinience i am yet to read or hear somebody put up a case for Safaricom that its convinient with its restrictive data bundles ? Its just plain clear that Oranges's unlimited internet is the way to go.Unless all you do is just log on to your computer to just browse two or three low quality websites and call it a day.
As for speeds theoretically Safaricom has a fast speed but i really DONOT see the difference in speeds when using my Orange line. Its just fast.

As for me its ORANGE all the way.

Wow! The lack of bills was also a big problem for me with Access Kenya. Finally I gave up demanding for bills FROM them and now I use Orange. Their equipment is still lying in my house and I have no time to go force them to pick it up! WTF!
