power steering pumps are made to last and rarely fail by themselves having said that i would check for any leaks on the high pressure hydraulic lines/hose and also check the the power steering fluid reservoir,
if there is a leak somewhere along the lines then replacing the lines will solve your problem, however if the fluid reservoir is below minimum and you have a check engine prompt then your pump is gone as the pump has been running dry and got damaged resulting in loss of pressure hence the steering feeling hard

I took the car to Toyotsu and they insisted it’s the power steering Pump so I bought a new one @60K they replaced it and nothing changed. They said I need to replace the entire Steering Rack which was costing 180K and I declined. I took it to a juakali mechanic who diagnosed and said it’s the Steering column that has an issue and he did some “first aid” and the car is now OK. He advised I will need to replace it so I have just ordered for one and it will cost about 20K
