But you are right in one way - time is a cruel master - it waits for no man and since we have all swallowed the narrative of a never ending "race" to unknown destination (possibly resulting from our nature to try and dominate on others). each nation state is in competition with the other for top dog. If that their "destiny" does not include any form of "development" then what were their reasons they did not want to be with the north, who denied them "development"?
it's all about self-determination... that's the goal. Everything you think is the goal is a by-product i.e. development, modernity e.t.c. are fruits of that. <--- that is one side of the coin. But sometimes chaos results from self-determination. (I am not sure about the stats but majority of the states on this planet have engaged in civil war ) <--- it's the other side of that coin
