Uber, Easy Taxi, Pewin, and now Maramoja

We are spoilt for choice! Hope they all stay healthy and compete so we can have even lower fares...In the end though it is the company with best labor practices (Uber's achilles heel majuu) whether required by Gova or not, that is going to win.

Locally, Uber still has the numbers and more organised in terms of response time!!!

Deep pockets, analytics of the kind @Mike Ock talks about above and first mover advantage make it hard to beat Uber. Real challengers to Uber are in China, and maybe in India where the sheer number of riders and knowledgeable technology savvy people who know their market make it possible to compete.

Kenatco where are you?? come save us from Uber and these other laghais.Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

On Friday, I was chatting on Facebook Messenger with my wife about where we should grab dinner. Once we decided, I responded with a simple, informal “K I get uber.” Meaning, of course, that I would call an Uber and meet her there. What’s amazing in this mundanity is that Messenger was able to parse my words and figure out that I indeed wanted to order an Uber car, and so it automatically inserted a “Request a Ride” button right below my chat bubble.

This thread is mostly about the customer experience side.Any wazuan who has tried investing in the business to share the experince and average returns. I have severally had a chat with the drivers and if they are to be bealived(One actually showed me his dailly summary) the returns averaging Kshs.5000 isnt bad.

I was really interested and had even engaged a car dealer to get one on higher purchase, but thinking twice after researching on the same. I have info from a driver and an investor. The driver(known him for over 20yrs)said there was a month he made 220k for his boss think earlier on, but margins have now reduced and are in the ranges of 70-80k p.m.
The investor has been there for about three months and received 110k 1st month and 80k second month. This is the 3rd month and his driver tells him things are now not very good and he may not make the target of 80k. The investor says a neighbor of his was in and has pulled out his car coz returns have dwindled.
Apparently Uber is signing up very many cars. He advises against getting a car on loan as it may be a challenge paying the installments, especially if the loan is so huge. Am still gathering more info.
Any other wazuan with info on returns?

Drivers are not happy, now on go slow.

Uber needs to embrace Kenyans' peculiarities. Undercutting the competition is less important than servicing their clientele well. In any case they cannot undercut motorbikes and matatus.
Life is short. Live passionately.

I see no problem in undercutting completion. One has to fight with the only weapon they have.

If the Uber drivers as they call themselves are not happy let them join the competition. I don't understand Kenyan mentality strike, riot, burn schools what nonsense.

The real game changer will be Uber introducing UberPool in Kenya or Litte creating a car sharing module.

The number of people who can share cars to and from work daily is quite huge.
