It's terribly unfair. And it's usually the loyal juniors who suffer the most.

Sad but what to do

Yeah. We just have to remember as employees, our jobs are as secure as the notice period in the contract.

No one owes us anything, yet we spend so much more than the 40 hours a week at work (or whatever contracts say) and let it take control of our lives.

It is mismanagement that leads to some of these consequences. A small mistake in the airline industry sends an operator back to the drawing board. In the case of KQ, it seems so many mistakes were committed and the consequences are now evident.

It is better for them to go rather than wait for the unthinkable. I hope it does not lead to another strike by the pilots.

no, @ obiero I differ. its so painful to see wealthy men and women of stature, courageously and with strain give kq a chance to dispose off assets, down size the company as well as their hearty wealth to let off the employees with decency. None of these ever aware timid small time thieving employees would have dared blow off the whistle given chance, but kq is still kind enough to send them off atleast with a recommendation letter without a warning of known vices to the next potential employer.
paining continues at kq. no pain no gain. peace

Dear @Obiero, to help your chosen charity would you like to increase the bet to KES 250,000 under the same conditions of the current bet?

Funding for the retrenchment exercise of 600 staff will be funded by a $100mn loan from Afrexim bank.
Loans are increasing while the company is selling assets

Everyone including your watchman are aware that KQ is overstaffed.. 5people to handle one traveller from check in to boarding reeks of wastage. Plus fewer staff will lead to a massive cut in monthly salary payments which definitely are lower than interest payments to Afriexim

Aren't the check in staff contracted through Naikuni's girlfriend manpower agency?

The final nail in the coffin is not yet. Isn't he responsible for the mistakes done by his juniors? He endorsed all the decisions taken. Ngunze can't touch him since they are gate keeping for Naikuni?

You are over rating Ngunze. He has handled this turnaround very haphazardly. His decision making style is that of trial and error.

Shame on you Liar Shame on you Liar Now, now... are you using religion to back out of the bet?

Dear @Obiero:
- Do you receive (or have received) any perks from KQ?
- Do you receive (or have received) any perks from any PR agencies that represent KQ?
- Do you receive (or have received) any free upgrades on KQ flights?
- How many shares does your buddy Ngunze own in KQ?

Does your religion allow for "pay for play"?

It's not personal, just biashara... Please ask Ngunze to buy fuel from KenolKobil, we need the money coz we have no godfather in GoK. In Cash. No credit.

Hello good people. Am new here.

I wish to add my voice to the KQ debate. Sorry if I repeat what others may have said before-would take me a week to go through the whole thread.

1. Its a fact that KQ is in a very bad position financially.
2. KQ is not going to die. It has hit rock bottom, it can't go any lower. It will either flatten out or improve.
3. The share price is definitely going to rise over the coming year, so if you're buying buy now-but buy to sell. Dividends ziko mbali bado.
4. We should expect a 7-10b full year loss, unless the're other savings I am not privy to.
5. With the fuel hedge in its last months, the financial position of the company will improve significantly over the coming year. I project a at least 30% improvement, with a 1-2b loss half year loss and 200-500m profit for full year 2017.

As for the leadership, Mbuvi is the right guy for the job. He shall turn around KQ. Suppliers love his humility. Employees say that he is accessible.
For the retrenchment, i still wonder who the 80 are. Almost all departments are said to be understaffed, people working overtime, with departments like engineering experiencing high staff losses to the middle east carriers.
