The supreme court judges are the most powerful seven people in the country. Think about it, the president and all other elected officials have terms that end every 5 years. However corrupt they can be they at least have to be responsive to peoples opinions because they need them.

Once a supreme court judge has been appointed unless they go pinching peoples noses or receiving 200 million shillings in broad daylight they are pretty much assured of a long tenure in which they can do what they want.

When you have this kind of security you can be tyrannical like a dictator because you know nobody can touch you. Now that I think about it I wonder whether this is what is making Judge Njoki Ndungu aanze kumea pembe and also wonder how assertive she will become in the future. She is the youngest judge on the bench and having been born in 1965 she is not going anywhere until 2035. Think about that, she will be there untouchable for 4 more presidential terms 2017, 2022, 2027, and 2032!!! She might be there to swear in Muhoho Kenyatta as Kenya's 6th president!!

Smokin Wanjala will be 70 in 2030, Mohammed Ibrahim around 2029 and Jackton Ojwang in 2020.

If a 40 year old is appointed to the supreme court you are looking at a job security that lasts till 2046 in a very powerful position!!! the stakes are very high.

I think it would be in the country's best interests to appoint judges who are older than 60 to the supreme court so that we dont end up with very long reigns.

If selection criteria is properly followed, then anyone below 60 should not qualify for supreme court bench.

Njoki ndungu was an unqualified political appointee and that's why her errors are so glaring. To make things worse, we have to live with the mistake for 4 decades

Applause Applause This has been my thoughts for soo long. Given her weird character.. She's an impunity in the making. Remember she said CJ is among equals at Supreme Court. She's a kid vs the others but full of unchecked energies, pride and arrogance. She's soo ambitious and has been scheming for the top job. Truly we need 60's fellows spread out to ensure continuity.

Given that she will abandon her political outfit to take up the CJ position, she'll still have one eye on politics. Other players will be rattled as well.

Lioness in sheep skin. She shouldn't get this CJ seat IMHO;
1. She was minister for justice in 07/08 fiasco and orchestrated the rigging, swearing in among others. That's a traditional andu a nyumba and you know their views.
2. She's soo bitter about UK after she wasn't granted DPM then and UK told her off!
With this kind of issues in her, the decisions she influences will be greatly biased based on her bitterness and nature.

I think Kenneth Marende would make a great judge. He is calm and sober and has experience as a lawyer, law maker and speaker that gives him a good understanding of how the whole system of government functions. He is also 60 years old. Just the right age to serve 10 years and retire.

They have room to appeal. The CJ was unprofessional giving them fodder to use against the court.

I agree with @Othelo in a vulgar language "Njoki ako na Kiherehere kama njot ya kwanza" she heard on a matter of urgency
but pushed it's ruling far away. She had colluded with them to make them stay. Mutinda was wise in disqualifying himself just to point to Njoki that he's the CJ. Despite mutunga having trusted and allowed judges freedom, Njoki turned it into a weakness akawa na madharau. She's playing populist.

Who is that in red? Populist to who? I thought the popular decision was the judges have to retire?

Maka, it's not too late to submit your application

Quote:
The Judiciary is yet to receive applications for the post of the Chief Justice and two other vacant positions at the Supreme Court.

By Monday, Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi said that they were yet to receive bids from prospective candidates.

“Not yet, we are waiting,” Amadi told the Star.

The deadline for the CJ's position is Friday, July 8, while that of the Deputy CJ and Supreme Court judge are due on Wednesday, July 6.

Nobody wants to be cj when babu is running for president. Even Mutunga had to leave early so as not to deal with that perennial loser.
