The common market protocol will be signed this week, but I think will not take effect immediately. The 4 factors will move freely between borders. Still TZ has not fully accepted the issue of land ownership. At least things are moving, next is EAC Monetary Union in 2012.??????

In Kenya we are busy dividing the country into tribal zones with the pretext of equitable distribution of resources? Zones you cannot step into unless you are a 'local'.

If you cannot buy land in your own country, who tells you that you will be able to buy it in another country, unless you are an alien (white or whatever, but not african)?

The One Bendera,One Anthem etc will be meaningless,if we cannot embrace (tribal) diversity.

@Bashka - you seem to be in the know abt this issue. Does that mean I can cross into Youganda without braking at the border?

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

@sokomjinga spot on............we Kenyans are too divided.......and Tanzanians fear us way too much; and sometimes I don't blame them.......even that U. States of Africa is not realistic..at least not in the near future...I hope it works but......

@Djinn,the issue of free movement of pple is sticky, countries can agree btn themselves. Once the common market takes off movements will be easier. But some countries dont have National IDs,meaning the EAC passport will be used.

@Njung'e,you are right the original time line was 2015. But the Heads of States met in 2008 and directed the MU to be effected in 2012. I understand that currently a study is being conducted to ascertain whether a MU is feasible in 2012. But since the five heads of states want it in 2012,who can reject?

@Bashka - thanks. That 30-40 minutes at the border really slows things down. Lets hope they find common ground.
