So Russia's track and field team has been banned from Rio. this is big!

Wow! thats huge

Russia will never stop cheating but I don't understand the whole banning a country thing, track and field is an individual sport, why not simply ban the doping athletes, d'oh! d'oh!

Because the doping involved everyone from government officials to the military to coaches and the athletes themselves. I.E the entire system. Hence the phrase systematic doping. The clean athletes (and I doubt they exist) can blame the government.

Nevertheless, IOC may give them a reprieve.

That may be true but at end of day it's still an individual event, test each participant separately and judge them on their test results.

the issue is that testing is not only done on the day of the event, but continuously to ensure that even during training no one gets an advantage, for russia the continuous testing is allegedly made very hard by the state thus the national ban.
But at the end of the day its the west that defines what is an unfair advantage, me I think what they do in oregon is just an accepted form of doping that very few can afford.

Marion Jones was jailed for cheque fraud and the charges against Armstrong were brought by French authorities and WADA.

Read up on the Balco scandal and Tyler Hamilton's book, The Secret Race.

Please don't post half truths. Marion Jones was also sentenced for lying to federal prosecutors investigating the use of performance-enhancing substances.

Read the very 1st paragraph of the article below
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/01/11/jones.doping/

Cheque fraud was a secondary issue that only arose because the prosecutors wanted to pressure her to admit her guilt with regard to doping.

The evidence is there that American authorities have been complicit in cases of doping

Yes back in the 1980s and 1990s they were complicit. Not today

French Authorities had no power over Armstrong. What eventually brought him down was when the US authorities joined in the investigation

Lance Armstrong also faced a lawsuit by the US justice department because he defrauded the United States Postal Service

USADA also brought a case against him

Athletes generally steadfastly deny allegations until they are threatened with jail time. And only US authorities could threaten him with jail time.
