Hi Wazuans
How do you handle a case of repeatedly overflowing soak pit.
Contractor says the soil type gets easily saturated(clay/black cotton) and he needs to dig around the soak pit and fill back with murrum.

The other alternative is to do a separate soak pit for the waste water from the sinks, bathrooms and dhobi sinks.

Thanks for sharing and be blessed

There are some guys who sell chemicals for pit latrines, it also works for soak pits, but the application is the hard part since you have to uncover upto where you put rocks then apply, the best solution for black cotton areas is to do is to do well type soak pit and cover well to keep out flood water, I did about 40 feet for 6 floors and never had an issue

Yours is a soak pit or a pit?If it a soak pit has it been partitioned to hold toilet flush water and "other" water separately?

it's a soak pit deep minus the rocks, I have the kawaida septic which drains in to this 'soak pit' it's just like those village wells but go as deep depending on number of houses and seal properly you wont have issues with overflow.
the problem with black cotton soil is if it rains heavily water seeps into your pit, the deep pit solves the issue by providing more dry surface area for water to seep in.
