Some fellows here need help alongside Kuria. For a start, railways are elevated along animal corridor and they also get elevated on plains for engineering reasons. Assuming someone's proff lost his books at that aviation college and therefore, the welder did not conclude his syllabus, he may refer to the following physics lessons;

Tractive effort
Track curvature
Percentage grade
Tractive force required for acceleration.

Hahahahahaha.......Seriously, we have mega problems with our graduate engineers.

@njung'e

Personal battles with @impunity aside, why was the line elevated for 500Kms. Its a major cost added and there has to be a good reason.

Sorry Obi. I have no problem with the welder. Just his ignorance. Animal corridors is one but the rest has to do with the fact that the train has to climb from sea level to heights above 6800 feet ASL. This must be done efficiently, at the design speeds and considering loads to be hauled. Same applies for a railway line going down hill (say from Londiani to Kisumu and i think this is one reason why SGR will pass through Bomet to Kisumu rather than through Nakuru). The rolling is moderated and this also informs sizing of engines for various levels of loads.

Thanks for this, I bet they are going to dig the sh*t out of the escarpment before the train drops into the Rift Valley, or create a massive bridge to manage the altitude drop to the Rift floor, that will be interesting.

Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly ....Okay!. You are really funny!. Back to business. There will be no long bridges to the floor of the RV. The easier and far much gentler route would still be using the inner length of the side of the escarpment just as in the current situation. James May offers a simplified explanation in the video below. I hope this helps.

Mark you the Lunatic Line, designed in 1890s can accomodate speeds of up to 72km/h on safe stretches.

These are the results you get when you put a @Maina to decide a railway matters...pesa tu, people who have never boarded a train in their life are the MDs of the same.

For the rest of us who didnt attend engineering or welding classes, I have tried to simplify the above lessons in a layman's language

1. Tractive effort-When you are landing and you feel like your landing gear is being held captive by the airpor(esp when she is having an orgasms), that'sthe tractive effort of the airport

2.Track curvature-Refer to teh photo of Edna Kariuki(the fisilet who caused the death of Muganda)

3.Percentage grade-The incline/decline of the airport relative to the landing position

4.Tractive force required for acceleration.-The force exerted by your landing gear in an airport

@Obi 1 Kanobi, I am still re-searching to find out why the entire length, 500km-plus was elevated, including the marshalling yards and the stations.
Let the senile and empty headed chief tribal bigot NOT derail(pun) your concern.

Some of the highest climb rails are found in Swistzeland, Chile and Peru...and nothing is elvated the Kenyan style. We must have been given the wrong design may be meant for other projects.

Those people who have travelled outside (and not only in Marsabit) will tell you that rails are elevated for high speed (350km/h plus), but even in sparsley populated areas like the Ukambani the thing just stay low and get fenced off to prevent wild animals and walevi.

Our SGR as currently being built can only achieve max speed of 120km/h, whether powered by DEU and Pure Electric!

This is a GOLD elephant, Lunatic squared!!!

And even that MD of RVR who was picked from some MED Supplier firm to come and manage railways...total blonde!!!

How can such a person run a railway?
Pure Lunatics at the helm.

Probably the only thing him and that @Maina guy at KR knows about trains is the Dandora commuter junk, and they also see it on TV just like many dumb Kenyans do.

They know not that between 60s and mid 80s, Kenya and ZIM had the best run Railway in Africa,South of Sahara and North of Limpopo.

They dont know you could board a Lunatic express from Nairobi to Mombasa, have 3 course dinner, drink in a pub-on-rail, sleep for 8 hours on white linen, sh*t on western style loos, make babies while a board a Kenya train.

Total Blondes running the railway in Kenya, plus an *sshole government to boot.

Did the building of the reli transfer to Kenyans? I thought CRBC was in charge of design and engineering?

We were told that they did the design, did the engineering, supplied most of the raw material and now they will manage and run it for at lest 5 years.

Mr. Okoth has a good cv, with an engineering background from Germany - at least I know him and hopefully he will do a good job. No need to bad mouth him before the project is even finished - lets wait and see how beneficial it will be - only time will tell.

So why all the bile on Maina and Otieno Okoth? Did you apply for their positions and missed out?
