Hi Wazuans,
Am looking for building stones....for the foundation. Have been told to get the "blue" stone or Kavu....sourced on the way to Naivasha/ Maai Mahiu.
Does anyone know exactly where the quarries are?

I know those at Guatho (guaso) Gicheru or kamangu areas. That is kiambu county ndeiya aeras

If you are in the Eastern part of Nairobi, get them from MaStima near the new sewage works off the bypass.

@Mmunguti, The quarry is located in maai-mahiu on the Narok road about 3Km from maai mahiu town. There are three types of the "blue" stone: Kavu, Raymond, and Githonjo(almost resembles ile mawe ya kuosha mguu). They all retail at the same price, with Kavu being the "hardest" and Githonjo being the "lighter". Hope that helps.

Very true. The trick is to use what is available in your locality. Even soil is a building material but everyone wants to us stones to look modern, hence the high building costs. I once did a water tank and every local fundi was insisting on very hard stones for the tank to avoid water percolating on the stones. I got an expert who told he could use any stone to do the tank, and surely, he use porous machine cut stones but cured them by dipping them in water to' drink all the water they needed' plastered them properly after building, and to date- after 15 yrs, not a singe drop leaks! Thanx for the info guys.....I can now make an informed decision. I do agree most of the "professionals" have no idea. I had asked where to get that "Kavu" and he had no idea...just that its on the way to Naivasha.

@mmunguti I'm also doing some construction in Kiambu.. Which area are you operating from? I gather that there is a machine cut stones quarry at Maai Mahiu. Who knows more about this, prices, quality e.t.c?

Hio ni "kavu"? @mmunguti if you are at Norbrook there is a good supplier of building materials at the junction on your to Nazareth hospital some few meters from Norbrook. He is an old hand at the biz and has been supplying people for may years. Hope that help. If you need contact I can help
