can some wazua nut-head create this poll. We the armchair soldiers want to see who supports what.

Should IEBC commissioners vacate office?

YES

NO.

Who cares

My stand on these guys is the same. Its beyond repair, whichever way you look at it. There is no way they will supervise the coming elections.

1. A political contest should not only be fair, but should also be seen to be fair. We all know the key contenders of the high sit at this point in time is Jubilee and CORD. CORD feels the referee is biased, the other side has also some reasons to believe IEBC should go. Its even easier than we thought. Why not get a diplomatic solution where the country negotiates with the IEBC Commissioners and give them a send-off package for fairness sake? I am so sure even our "development partners" would be willing to help us pay out such. Even if we are to pay from our coffers, I honestly feel that would be a better way of spending the money(for the sake of a peaceful country) than having its chewed by a few through corruption.

3. Its my personal opinion that whatever method we use to send these guys home must be within the constitution. That is why my proposal is to call them aside and request them to resign "willingly" citing that they feel some of the important contestants in the race do not trust them. I don't think guys of this caliber should be seen to be 'imposing' themselves on the people, however right their defense may be.

******

Everyone believes that the commissioners should be appointed afresh not that they have done anything wrong but to correct and cure the perception. Our point of departure is only one, use Kangaroo tactics or use civilised and constitutional means.

My opinion is that is they should not resign until such a time we have amended the act and put in place a mechanism of appointing other commissioners. Otherwise we will find ourselves in a limbo and constitutional lacuna by trashing the constitution.

wacha we remain with mr. limbo, I don't know what is cord's game plan coz even if the guys resigned the existing mechanism for appointing new guys heavily involve the president/parliament, if that happens and they happen not to win the coming election the reason will be its the president who selected the iebc.
We invested heavily in the constitution, I wish cord could at least try out what is laid out and if (sorry when) they fail then go to the streets, but they have not even attempted the constitutional route.

Whatever Cord is doing at the moment is none of the above.
How many times have teachers held demos around the country for better pay?
How many times have nurses and doctors held strikes and picketed for better pay and better working conditions.
How many times have rights groups held demos over various human rights issues. The list is endless. How many of such have ended with scenes like we are witnessing? Few and far apart if any.

Is is more than obvious the demonstrations have nothing to do with picketing or whatever nice name you want to call it. Its plain violence being meted out on innocent Kenyans. Then we act all surprised and start taking sides on who is right and who was wrong when police brutally carry out extrajudicial punishments and/or killings, when women get raped in the preceding melee, when shops are looted and so on and so forth.

The reason we have institutions and laws is so that we can abide by them no matter how aggrieved we feel whether rightly or wrongly. If tomorrow other "leaders" woke up and decided that all judges must be forcefully removed from office because of a case which they lost and uses their influence among the population then what next. Seemingly barbarism is not limited to our neanderthal ancestors. When you start putting aside the constitution to please someone so that you can be guaranteed "peace" then you are equally to blame because the cycle will forever be endless.
2007 is coming as we pretend to take moral sides instead of nicking it the bud. Anyway what do I know!

Kenya constitution at some point in time clearly stated that Kenya was a one party state, if we followed your thinking we would still be in KANU now.

Wait, at one point, the law didn't allow Kenyans to own properties and had no rights, again if we follow your thinking we would still be under the colonialist.

You're either stupid or too blinded by tribal loyalty because everything that we enjoy right now people have had to fight unjust laws including constitution put in place with skewed interest that do not serve the people.

I just told you how stupid your thinking is.

Actually i was hoping for a more intellectual debate unlike your childish tirade about irrelevancies but you are hopelessly lost on this one. Best to move on

I dislike people like you because they call themselves intellectuals but their thinking is clouded by deep bias mainly driven by tribal or political affiliation.

Just by visiting your post, you start very well by claiming to support the freedoms that are contained in the constitution then went ahead and question whether CORD's ongoing protest is protected by the constitution, that's disingenuous because as an intellectual you claim to be, you must know the answer for that but because you're so biased, you probably can't see it.

I am Kenyan and I say they must not quit. .
It's wrong for anyone to intimidate an independent commission. .
Where did the rule of law and the respect for constitution go?
