Since they have invested in the machines, they should be in working conditions, especially due to the terror crime times we live in. However, DOMESTIC ARRIVALS terminal shouldn't alarm Ndugu Magufuli that much. He spoke of Meno ya Tembo, Dhahabu, Almasi etc coming from other parts within Tanzania to this airport. Transportation within a Country isnt that much scrutinized. There are numerous ways people may travel within a country - Road, Rail or even foot paths. What chances are there that people traveling that way will be checked for Dhahabu, Almasi or meno ya Tembo. Dunia ni msongamano..

Poor problem solving skills. Really? Sounds like a reasonable question. The operators should know why the machines are not working same way a driver should know why a car is not moving. "The purpose of bureaucracy is to compensate for incompetence and lack of discipline." James Collins

I thought they are the custodians of the machines and therefore have the responsibility over its status/condition................. therefore they should know why it is not working and alternatives. Poor problem solving skills. Are you serious? Who then is supposed to know if the people in charge and drawing a salary as managers don't need to know? Na kumbe public servants are all the same in all African nations?

Thats an answer only the engineer can know. Rather than question the systemic problem that has left the machine broken all this time, he's more focused on portraying the poor woman as a liar. Sad

Sad Magufuli was not interested in the mechanical 'why', he wanted to know why it has taken so long to sort. There is a point the guy has started speaking of its 'American made' and he stopped him right there. The issue is, whether it is made in Kiangoma or wherever, why is it not functional for all that time. And in fact, even if he wanted a mechanical explanation, surely more than 4months is enough time for the managers to have gotten an explanation from the necessary people such that they can explain clearly what is wrong with it. Isn't the tall guy even trying to give the reasons anyway? Management should be rather straight forward, we just like complicating it to be seen busy. Ensuring the small things are functioning should be the starting point...Unfortunately most managers are obsessed with power point presentations, corner offices, endless meetings and such other absurdities when the very basic are not fixed. When they are called to give directions on basis, they never answer with the excuse 'I have been in strategy meetings the whole day'. Doing what? Drawing Masterplans that will never get implemented simply because no one is bothered on whether the basic things are functioning?

If he wanted to know why it has taken that long he could have expressly stated it (In fact that should have been the right question that would address the systemic issue). Instead his tone and body language appeared condescending and he wasn't interested in explanations.

I don't even get why a president is getting into petty arguments with workers, then he gets angry that the lady is not towing his line, she explains to him how they work and he still insists that he was cheated. Hata ka ni kazi tu, listen to the explanation ask for a detailed report and act on that, otherwise a one minute ambush can be deceptive.

It seems the moment he got into that place he had his mind made up, going as far as telling the lady to apologize for 'cheating' him while in actual sense she was trying to explain to him how things work hapo, and the fact that they use that place as the departure area, leadership is also about listening.
