have no idea how the americans do their sports, but how would you compare this to say european football, is it like wanyama being signed by southampton or arsenal or something like that.

NFL and EPL average salaries are roughly equal. The NFL generates a lot of money but it is divided among far more players. Each NFL team has about 90 players active at any given time.

But NFL careers last for a much shorter time. You are lucky if you can last 4 years. Your 1st serious injury will likely end your career because there are no lower divisions to play in and you can't go play in another country either.

Hope he doesn't follow the usual black pro-athlete scripts.

1. Marry some cheerleader fisette or the many groupies that follow pro athletes
2. Get her pregnant or one of her many men help you
3. She then drives you crazy with an unbearable relationship
4. Get into a daily routine of nightly fights
5. You one day grab her by the arm after frustration
6. She calls the cops on you who kick you out of your house
7. She divorces you and gets custody of the kids and all your property
6. You end up if lucky as some gym instructor in a high school/college
8. If unlucky, you die of drug overdose, or end up in jail for substance abuse

He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Plus he has academics to fall back on if his gridiron career comes to a halt. So I don't think #6 will happen. But crazy stuff happened to the other chaps so you never know.

This guy is not a Kenyan! He moved to USA when he was 7 years old, he has no memory or connection with Kenya other than the probably rare visits.

NFL to me is a better deal than most sports, you play at most 18 games a season for 6 season averaging ~ $3m a year, when you're done, you're still in your 20s.

This is just conjecture on your part. Maybe he still talks to his relatives in Kenya. Maybe he has even visited. We don't know yet. In any case he still Kenyan.

Its better to play baseball or basketball where contracts are guaranteed. Also NFL results in debilitating injuries. NFL Careers are too short. And players have no other options if they are terminated. At least in the NBA , if a team terminates your contract, you can go play in Europe which also offers good money. Also the average salary is just over half of what you stated
