From peoples experience, which ISP would you recommended for a SME requiring a dedicated fibre optic link? Currently weighing between KDN and JTL.

its good by the way that the country has one of the fastest internet third to none on the continent! but how many people are connected to the net or enjoy the so called internet? for heavens sake we have 4G! but even 2G is only accessible through mobile...or the cyber cafe...we need not just great internet speed but rather an internet revolution...have seen it work in the russian federation in less than three years.

As much as they have a bogus response system I would urge you to try Orange Telkom, much cheaper and reliable lakini ikipotea utawatafuta mpaka chini ya kiti though they rarely have outages as far as within CBD

Please indicate where you want to have the link ?This will help to identify the most suitable ISP.
JTL should be last on the list.

In Kenya, most ISPs (if not all) are giving clients capped speeds. If you pay for a 2mbps link you are basically getting 250KB/sec of download speed. A while back they were giving clients uncapped speeds then realized they are loosing money

I'm aware of Zuku's poor service delivery.

Just curious to know which ISP(s) would provide such low speeds after ordering e.g. a 2mbps fiber link.

It's important to differentiate between megabytes and megabits. Speed of a link is measured in megabits and a megabit is only equal to 128 kilobytes so when you order a 2 megabit connection the max speed you will ever get is 256kB/s. To get your speed in bytes, divide the advertised speed by 8.

Safaricom should now consider owning their own undersea cable to Fujairah and London.
With the amount of data traffic they carry the investment is worthwhile.

Not necessary.

Safaricom has plenty of unused 'space' on TEAMS as well as SEACOM. There is no point in investing in undersea cables unless they want to lose their focus on Kenyan customers and start negotiating landing and access rights in Fujairah and London. Then add the interconnections with other cable providers.

Safaricom needs to ensure my calls are clear and stop dropping. It's annoying to have poor call quality. Safaricom needs more regional partnerships which Kenyans need as we go 'regional' vs the current crazy roaming rates.

Safaricom needs to encourage local hosting while simultaneously improve local connectivity. My phone was showing 4G last week but with real speeds close to EDGE. Very annoying. Get all base stations in urban areas upgraded to 4G first as the number of phones capable of 4G connections increase on a daily basis.
