Gosh! It took 30 years - a good note for youngsters out for quick success smile
The first Kenya 7s team played in Hong Kong in 1986.

Just incase you missed the scoring

Kenyan have been aggressive at the breakdowns and these turnovers yielded opportunities that put Fiji on their backfoot.

And the players financed themselves for the trip as the federation could not afford. Akina Rombo, Masiga Muniafu etc..

KQ made further losses. The sponsorship contract is performance based. A win means they cough out more money. I wonder what they mind this loss.

That photo is Watembezi RFC and not Kenya sevens. Jimmy Owino (deceased) at the center was captain.

Thanks @kollabo, you are right but not entirely. Photo is from first 7s team that represented Kenya at Dubai Sevens from 1982 until 1986 - as KRFU didn't have finances, Watemebezi Pacesetters competed on our behalf. The first Kenya Sevens team was created in 1986 for Hong Kong. http://kenyapage.net/rugby/sevens/history.html

Meanwhile, this is what the president of Fiji thought of their 'defeat'

If you look at tweets from the likes of Wetangula, when you see Ruto grabbing primary school land when you see the lack of support from the president, you quickly understand that most politicians don't know the first thing about what it takes for a country to be successful at any sport. But they are quick to jump on the bandwagon when a team does well. Its comical.
