So we have 8700 dollar millionaires in Kenya!

What exactly does it take to be middle class in Kenya (2015)? I saw the other day plots in Kahawa going for as high as 15 million whereas a lecturer earns around 100k net which got me thinking...will a lecturer ever afford a plot in Kahawa with his savings? Of course not!For most professionals,owning a house or rental property in a nice place around Nairobi is increasingly becoming a pipe dream:( A successful man is not he who gets the best, it is he who makes the best from what he gets.

The obsession with undeveloped land will soon be a thing of the past. There is too much buying-for-speculation where the buyers have no plans to develop the plots but to hoard and sell later when prices rise. With rent in ridgeways, runda etc where an apartment goes for 100k a month, how much do those guys earn, to live there and drive fuel guzzlers...they must be earning at least half a million per month...or 1 million if they have families Since men have learned to shoot without missing, I have learned to fly without perching

Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Gava & parastatal honchos, UN guys, NGO guys and managers at multinationals get hefty housing allowances of around 200k per month, which is what the landlords are targeting.

With full occupancy you can easily build more flats in other parts of Nairobi and other cities without the need for bank loans

Kiash...I'm tempted to ask you to stick to your lane.  But I won't.  @Jon Jones - I am keen to know where you can get a house in Runda for 100k a month. Last I heard, a friend was renting his 4 bedroom house there for 250k, and he felt he had undercharged the tenant. And as far as I know, a salary of half a million a month cannot sustain a rundahouse-fuelguzzling life. Especially after taxes. When you live for others' opinions, you are dead.

Having done so many works in the upmarket Nairobi and had the chance to interact with the owners of such, i would like to explain one or two points: 1. We have rich people in Kenya, dont underate the number. We have importers, exporters, private consultants, gynacologists, directors, rich businessmen, thieves, corrupt people en masse!! A lady friend works at a gynacologists office in town, the gyna is well known and has built his empire over 25 years.....she told me, from consultancy alone, they make between 50-65k per day........ include treatments and prescriptions and that goes to abt 80k per day.......roughly 2 million per month!!!!! so kulipa 250k inakuwa peanuts Another client i know mines gems in Taita Taveta county... guy so so rich, has a small chopper parked by the swimming pool!
