Are there people fabricating the kawaida steel gates, but rather than have two-part gate with hinges, make one with a sliding mechanism?

It doesn't have to be motor powered/automated. Thinking it would be helpful for a driveway/parking to have a gate that reclines (slides) along the fence/wall rather than the kawaida swinging gate.

Why do you need the sliding gate? Its harder to operate ... requires more energy to push n pull if not electric (if you need your wife and kids to open it) ... its not safer coz all you need to do is push it out of its sliding rail and you get in ... just issues to ponder

@Niko salama. Give the man a break. He bought a tiny lot coz he liked the location. Developed and settled in. Now hes bought a car and the yard barely fits his car. Sliding gates at this point are pure common sense.

You have considered the pros and cons. Why not ask your local fabricator? Perhaps he knows how but no one has asked him to make one. It will definitely stand out in a neighbourhood of swinging gates.

Hello Intelligentsia, I think I can help, is your gate over 500kgs?, if not then there is a remote gate mechanism that will work, the remote will work even beyond those 50m but it is advisable to open just when you can see the gate. If the gate is already there you will need to just weld the rails and greese the wheels well and the gate will work perfectly. Actually we can do all that for you. You can call me on 0725 790 733 or info (at)silveroaktechnologies.CO.KE; http://silveroaktechnologies.co.ke/, you can also add optional infra red beams to stop the gate from closing in case a car get stuck just when getting in at the gate. Regards, HN
