Hello matatu veterans. I am interested in joining the matatu industry, long distance, 14 seater to be precise. To do this, i understand that I will need a "box". I am not a rich guy, and so I want to start at the bottom. My budget cannot allow me to purchase a new hiace. Therefore, my question is, can I get a hiace "box", KCA and above at less than 1.4 million and without engine or gearbox problems? Is my budget realistic? I often believe that the best tool is the cheapest tool that can do the job. I am a beginner in this sector, and the 1.4 million budget is from my savings, no loan. Kindly advise.

Hehehe....hebu kwanza ingia tu olx or any other site and do some window shopping. Just to give you a rough idea of prevailing prices. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

Asking for a friend...anyone here with a diesel HiAce and a petrol HiAce...is there a difference in the amount your drivers deliver in a normal working day? The price differences are huge...what is the catch?

I used to own a Hiace Box,diesel.The difference is in fuel consumption.Diesel box is more fuel efficient and diesel is also cheaper.The diesel ones are turbo charged unlike the petrol ones.The disel box helps a long way in lowering your fuel costs.However,what matters most is what type of crew you have.Lots of touts/drivers and traffic policemen will drive you to the cleaners;like they did to me{lol}.

This is so so encouraging and invaluable. I got a partner already, a friend we have been discussing this biz and procrastinating but we have to do it now- met yesterday. He is kinda versed as he has two shuttles already + your invaluable info here really encouraged me to go it. Thinking diversification and already have a sketch of what we will do. We wont manage raising all the 5M so will do part financing. Do you know anything about Choda fabricators? Good stuff. Go for it. I don't know about Choda. I have some from Dodi and rest from CFG - CFG a lot better. i have seen many people either with kci or cfg is cfg cheaper tham kci ? Who has experience with LSHS or Masters in regard to quality building of basic 33 seater buses under the GM plans. How long (actual) does it take? I intend to plunge myself into this sector very soon, to learn as I make money

I believe schools and institutions like them due to the availability of financing(looks interesting). Cant complain as much as it is better than Dodi and not that far off from CFG (Although i find CFG and KCI looking better) Good luck on your journey

Hello all, Been in the biz for four months now. Except for the kidogo cop hustles, nothing much to complain, though the av. on our route is not as good as elsewhere. Now, if I were to get another unit, would I save a bit if I go to CFG as opposed to KCI who made my first one? And by how much for those who have experience? Another question, some crew from my route say that the smaller Nissans are doing well, at half the income of the bus but at a third of the cost. Older operating Nissans appear costly, yet newer ones especially petrol engines can be found at 1.2 m. Wazuans in the hustle, would I be in order to consider the petrol engine (2000) and what are the draw backs?

A friend told me that I could import a "box" for 1.6 million (petrol) and for 2.1 million for a diesel. My question to the veterans is whether the 500k price difference is warranted. Is it worth paying over 500k more for a diesel vehicle? Are the daily returns for a diesel vehicle 30% higher than those of a petrol vehicle, because evidently, the price is more than 30% higher. Hi good people..i recently revamped my dads stalled matatu reg KAK...bt realised it is not as powerful as it should, it struggles alot even on the smallest uphill climbs..what could be the problem? i have changed plugs, clutch and had the engine checked..

There is a Star Times KCB going for 1.3M. The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.
