Another one swept by ranging ravine at 1 am deep in Gatundu North on way back to Muranga. Had about 17 passengers.

So sad this is happening in a constituency that has produced 2 presidents.

I thought you would be more concerned with the Homabay one where a 33 seater mini bus was swept away?

matatu owners should also service their matatus instead of just collecting profits, clearly that was a brake failure, I wonder whether that car owner will be compensated by the insurance, plus lucky there was no one in it.

One of the reasons for road accidents is faulty road design, lack of appropriate signage and road contractors negligence.
E.g

On Maimahiu Naivasha road, they have painted road bumps with vertical lines like Zebra crossings. That road is pretty deserted and devoid of pedestrians. When driving at 100kph and you see vertical lines, you check to see if theres anyone crossing and if not you proceed, big mistake, utagonga bump ya mwaka. Same is repeated on stretch between Nakuru and eldoret.

Salgaa section should be a 6 lane dual carriage with 50 kph speed bumps coming down and probably no speed bumps going up.

Some contractors shave the tarmac off the road and leave huge craters then go away for weeks and leave no signs. People used to a road with holes in particular areas suddenly find huge craters that appear in one day. Very dangerous esp for people driving at night.

These loose chippings and no signs ...

There should be a law that allows me to sue the roads engineer in his personal capacity if I suffer loss due to his negligence. These professionals hide behind the goverment to commit murder.

@tom_boy, good observation up there, but only one correction...

If you put bumps downwards and none uphill, as they try to avoid bumps, the speeding lorries will take the "bumps-free" lane by forcing you driving in the opposite direction off the road if you're lucky.

eti salgaa 6 lanes, for what?the traffic there.is so thin that a one way with a climbing lane will do,as is now...they just need a separating barrier so that schupid folks wont overtake downhill using climbing lane.

6 lanes, 3 on each side with a seperating wall between them. One lane for those lorries so overloaded they cant help but cral at 10kph, the middle lane for slightly faster moving trucks and inside lane for cars cruising along. 2 lanes each can still work though not ideal.

What a shame

40 days zilifika.

Am shocked at the sight of those wine bags.I once bought wine whose taste was not anywhere near what I know.I consoled myself that maybe it was stale because I could not imagine someone refilling that plastic bag.Am wiser now.

Sixteen people died in two separate road accidents in Maai Mahiu and Salgaa on Friday night.
- 15th July 2016

Quote:
Three people died on Friday afternoon in an accident that left 12 others injured at Adiedo trading centre on Homa Bay-Katito road.

Quote:
Seven people lost their lives and several more got injured in a freak accident at Wangige-Limuru road junction in Ndenderu, Kiambu county on Sunday
- 3rd July

Quote:
Three people died on Wednesday at Mung’etho area on the Kenol-Sagana road in an accident that involved a Probox and a saloon car. The victims included one woman and two men

Quote:
At least 35 people have lost their lives through road crashes in the last couple of days, principally due to careless driving. One of the most shocking cases was the demise of seven university students in Kisii, among them two sisters, as they travelled upcountry for a party.

So far, the country has lost about 1,600 people on the road this year and unless checked, the statistics may be grim at the end of the year. Annual death toll on roads is estimated at 3,000 and when injuries are added to the equation, then the gravity of the situation becomes painfully clear.

Stay safe this weekend, don't drink and drive!

Many of the accidents happen due to "careless overtaking". If only people would be a bit patient on the road, many lives would be saved.

state of roads, corruption and bias in allocation of national resources is a key contributor to the fatalities
