he Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has erected billboards on key roads, notifying motorists of the intention to introduce user fees commonly known as tolls – to boost the pool of cash it is currently collecting through fuel levy. The list of highways, where motorists may soon start paying includes Nairobi-Nakuru, Nairobi-Mombasa, Thika Superhighway and Nairobi’s Southern by-pass. The new charges, which amount to a new layer of taxation, are curiously being introduced under a public-private partnership (PPP) despite the fact that the roads have been public funded using tax revenues.

Why would one pay to use Nairobi-Nakuru highway? Pay-use- save; How does one save?
You can't Toll a road with no alternative, build a better Mombasa-Nairobi road then toll it as a better alternative to the congested one, the toll as is now will just be a tax to use the road.
Right on.Toll stations should be introduced for those who want to do say a maximum of 12kph and then the alternative routes should be say 90kph. So if you want to travel fast , pay if not take the alternative and enjoy your time and save. Some people just sit and say we shall do this from tomorrow.
Unasema nini? In Addis, The express way(tolled) people do 100Km+the alternative is for you to stick on the single carriage way with trucks, buses and other things For a distance of 120 km, you tale an hr on the express way but on the alternative, you take 2.5 hrs+

Too stupid many decisions made by jubilee scrapped, toll was one, I think they are doing trial and error to see which one the Kenyans will not oppose.

tolls is a very good idea, those who have traveled extensively will tell you. It encourages public transportation but that has to be in place first before introducing tolls.

Those who have also traveled keenly will also tell you that, you either pay toll or pay road maintenance levy and if you pay road maintainance levy there is always an alternative to the tolled road. In kenya, what will be the alternative road for Mombasa-nakuru highway?

In Kenya JAP eaters want us to pay both. Where i cometh from, there are no roads to maintain yet we pay road maintenance levy on fuel used by farm machinery and even the local posho mill!!!
