Showdown looms over bid to extend TA's term

- TA chairman Kinuthia Wamwangi said the agency required more time to complete “core work”, saying should its term come to an end on March 4, as required by law, it would jeopardise the devolution process.

A link from the Mumias Website.
-Acquisitions
Mumias is on the look out for expansion through acquisitions of sugar mills that can add shareholder value. The GoK’s desire to divest from the sugar companies may provide MSC with an opportunity to acquire one or more state owned factories. The East African Community may also offer opportunities with Uganda and Tanzania Governments respectively reducing their participation in private enterprises.

Court stops sale of five public sugar companies

In Summary

-The High Court has stopped the sale pending determination of a suit filed by Transition Authority (TA).
-TA accuses the Privatisation Commission of overlooking its input on disposing of the millers, adding that it is in breach of the law.
-This means the auction of the 51 per cent stake in Sony, Chemelil, Nzoia, Muhoroni and Miwani milling companies to strategic investors will take longer.

MSC acquisition of local mills would be laudable if this is the plan.

Let me hurry up business of the day. I want to sit back and lean forward. I would like to follow that debate keenly and even the body language of proponents to gauge the level of seriousness on sugar industry especially Mumias revival. Sugar is gold mine with rich deposits for western Kenya people if managed properly.
